How do you feel about food? Many see it as a necessary evil; it'll make us fat or sick (hence all the fad diets) not to mention the rising cost of it. For centuries, Syrians enjoyed a very healthy diet full of flavor and variety for the rich and poor alike. It has the solution for our modern food dilemmas with thousands of recipes that can meet any dietary need and budget. So how come no one knows about it?
Remember the blind men who tried to describe an elephant? Judging Syrian food from conventional cookbooks or Houmos & Shawrma is the same, you'd have to go to Syria ( a war zone now) or we can deliver its magic to your inbox.
Dervish Kitchen taps a network of women from all regions and classes. We "translate" authentic recipes to YOUR local ingredients with tips to save time and money.
Our ultimate goal is not just to bring exotic dishes to your table. We'd like you to make peace with what you put in your mouth and learn to cook and eat like Syrians, with heart!
What we need the money for:
The amount I am aiming to raise will help to complete what I've started: Launching two websites and a newsletter about Syrian food in English and Polish,as well as a website in Arabic dedicated to collecting authentic Syrian recipes as a first step towards an archive of Syrian culinary heritage.
The money will go towards paying the people who have so far volunteered their time and resources to birth Dervish Kitchen. Most of these people are still living in Syria, but are so motivated by the idea of bringing recognition to our amazing cuisine, they have been collecting recipes and researching and documenting the history of our food culture under very difficult circumstances.
Finally, raising the capital for this project will give me the chance to give it my full attention, to have the time to write and research about something that is very dear to my heart and to be able to feed more people than I could possibly host in my small flat. The world will be my kitchen and the nurturing food of my people will be yours to enjoy.
