We're back.
10 years after the release of Destroy The Runner's debut album "Saints," the band's four original members - Kyle Setter, Nick Maldonado, Marc Kohlbry and Duane Reed - have come back together to make the follow-up record that they never had the chance to.
"While we were working on our third release, a lot of factors got in the way, and ultimately led to the band's indefinite hiatus. We weren't certain if we'd ever make another record together again, but we knew that things didn't end the way we wanted them to.
Over the years that followed the release of Saints, the band faced obstacles that led to both member changes and ultimately to the hiatus. The changing music industry. The health of the band as a group. Differences of opinion regarding artistic direction. The need for financially sustainable careers. The pursuit of different goals such as education and family. But despite these things, the desire to make music together never left.
Now that we've had time to focus on these things - and as we approach the 10-year anniversary of Saints - the four of us decided that now would be the perfect time to make music together again. We've already started the writing process, and couldn't be more excited about how things are coming together."
How does my donation help?
Making a record the way that we want to, with the quality that we think it deserves, is not cheap, so we're asking for the help of our fans and those who care.
The funding received will go directly towards the making of this EP - from pre-production, tracking and mixing, to art-direction and pressing. We do not intend to make any profit whatsoever from this campaign, but we also don't have the means of funding this recording alone. Making this record the way that it needs to be made will require that we all be in the same room, writing, rehearsing and recording with a team that we trust.
What will this record sound like?
The people reading this and considering a donation are the ones who will truly determine if this record will be made. And with those donations, we promise to make a record both that we believe in and that fans will be excited about. In the spirit of where we left off after writing Saints, it will be heavy. It will be fast. Kyle will be screaming. Nick and Duane will be shredding. Marc will be playing breakdowns. We're equally as excited to fuse all of this with influence from much of the ambient and atmospheric music that we love, which we had to chance to briefly explore on I, Lucifer.
What happens to my donation if the goal is not met?
If we don't reach our goal, we're still going to put something out. We will just have to be creative with the recording process to keep expenses down. But we didn't write all of these songs just to sit on them for another 10 years.
I'm excited for the record but I just can't contribute.
Thats OK. We get it. There was a time, years ago, when while on tour each of us was trying to figure out how to pay for our next meal. If you're as excited about this as we are, just pass the word along and help us to get this music out there.
Thanks!
Thanks to all of those who always believed in us. Thanks to those who bought our records and came to shows. Thanks to everyone who let us sleep on their floor or cooked us a meal. And thanks for helping us create together again.
