Short Summary
In the student filmmaking space, comedy is an underrepresented genre. It’s hard to do…and hard to do well. We’re hoping to dive into the student comedy space with “Drake” – bringing together absurdist humor and high production quality.
What is “Drake”?
We all know Drake - one of the most influential rappers and public figures for the past 20 years. For the past two generations, pop-culture and online spaces do not exist without Drake in them. At the start of our story, we dive headfirst into the zeitgeist where Drake exists – in our story, Drake has come to Savannah, GA for a 12 million dollar record deal. At a club downtown, our main character Spencer, gets in a fight with his girlfriend, Maria. When Maria and everyone else in Spencer’s life starts gravitating towards Drake, Spencer decides he must do something to get what Drake has – his girlfriend, and 12 million dollars.

Elliot Etheridge: Writer & Director
My name is Elliot Etheridge, and I’d like to think that I am pretty funny and pretty cool and has that type of face that you just want to donate money to. I spend a lot of my free time thinking about Drake, and what’s the whole deal with that guy, so I spit everything my brain had to say about him into a 28 page script - a funny one, mind you. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to tell this story, and you can help me.

Kay Tagliaferri - Producer
Hi! My name is Kay Tagliaferri - I'm producing this film with Elliot. I'm a Film & TV major at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and am from Bucks County, PA. While in school, I've produced or been apart of numerous films and have experience producing the type of production quality that we're looking for with this film. When I read this script, I knew I wanted to be apart of it because it was easily the funniest and most entertaining script I've read while in school. We have a wonderful and talented team coming together for this film - but we cannot make it without the funding necessary to support that team.
We Need Your Help!
The challenge of student filmmaking is funding - we cannot do it without the contributions of supporters like you! With your contribution, you’ll be awarded with one or more of our perks! This includes, an awesome sticker, your name in the credits, and a look at behind the scenes footage.
So you may be thinking, what sort of costs does a student film have?
- Production Design - $300
- This is any props that help make the spaces we shoot in more believable.
- Festival Submissions - $300
- Most festivals charge fees for submission - this category covers that.
- Set Operations - $800
- Location Fees, Uhaul rentals, and other equipment that we need to run a beautiful film set.
- Meals - $1,200
- Equipment - $1,500
We're thankful for any and all donations that we can receive for this film - you can think of a $10 donation as buying one of our crew members' meals for a day, a $50 donation taking care of a film festival submission, an $100 donation is helping us get the right equipment to make our film beautiful. The perks for donating are listed below.
The Impact
When our film is done, we're going to be blasting it all over the internet to share with people - before that, we're hoping to submit to film festivals around the country that have "comedy short" categories - this means potentially screening our film on the big screen in professional spaces. Want to see your name up on the big screen? You can donate to our campaign below.
