Hello,
I’m
East Bay Ray, guitarist and co-founder of
Dead Kennedys. Unfortunate story. When
I was playing guitar last April 2013 year for some great DK shows in Brazil, I
noticed my left hand began to hurt a lot during and after the shows. After the
tour in May, I went to the doctor and my left wrist appeared to have carpal
tunnel syndrome and there was also something wrong near my thumb in the same
hand.
The band did two more
DK shows in June 2013 and though various treatments brought down the pain and swelling
(wrist brace, ice, cortisone shot, etc) in the weeks before the shows,
afterwards my wrist unfortunately hurt even more and did not recover to where I
could continue playing guitar.
After more tests,
x-rays and consulting two other doctors, it was decided to have surgery on my
left wrist that involved two procedures, a carpal tunnel release and a De
Quervain’s (thumb tendon) release. These were performed on Jan 14, 2014. The
surgery appears to have been successful and I’m healing well. Now the hope is
that it will allow me to continue playing guitar, it's kind of hard to avoid
the repetitive movements required to do that.
Anyway, there are medical
bills that need to be covered and I thought it would be great to give
new music to those that participate, The East Bay Ray and The Killer
Smiles CD! Twelve
songs produced by Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers, Sublime). Great reviews - 4½
out of 5 stars on iTunes! Plus all sorts of other stuff.
I want to thank everyone that has taken the time to look at this campaign. And to
thank in advance everyone that can contribute. And even if you can’t
contribute, it will be greatly appreciated if you can share and tell your
friends about my campaign. “For those about to rock we salute you!”
