Overview
Embers of the Gods is a throwback to old school western style role play gaming. In the spirit of games like Might and Magic 6 and Wizardry 8, the player develops a party of adventurers through exploration, combat, questing and leveling up.

The story

"Embers of the Gods" is a story about a cyclic period in time when the gods are "renewed" or "replaced".  The god of nature going rogue brings about this time of change and manifests itself as anomalies in nature. Cold climate regions suddenly spawn pockets of tropical oasis, desert regions experience blankets of snow and ice. Throughout this period of change, the nature god sends hordes of his minions to destroy the world. The fate of the world, and ultimately the gods, relies on the actions of a commoner and a small group of adventurers.

In our game, players develop their party though exploration, combat, questing, and leveling up. The game world is rich with lore and immersive environments where countless treasures lie undiscovered. Deep lore and compelling story lines motivate the player to realize their true destiny which is ultimately to become gods.

What we are doing

This campaign is to raise funds for the development of a role playing video game that is influenced by old school RPG's like Might and Magic 6 and Wizardry 8. Our team here at Fortune Game Studio are inspired to bring you a gaming experience that will entertain you for years to come. Our goals are to achieve our game development dreams and leave a lasting impression on the world with this game.

This first fund raising campaign is to gain enough funds to develop our prototype demo into a more professional and polished work. Our next round of fund raising will occur after we have completed the work on our prototype demo, and it will encompass the entire development cycle of the full game. However, your contributions to this campaign and accompanying perk rewards will apply to the full game.

* Please note that accompanying demos, screenshots and videos all represent a work in progress and not the final product. The playable demo has many placeholder assets/artwork and may contain bugs and/or incomplete features as it is still in pre-alpha state. Most of the screen shots that are showcased were taken in 1080p, and they appear blurry in the thumbnails due to the size difference. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

What We Need & What You Get

We are asking for a modest level of funding for developing a large scale RPG:

  • Our funding needs are very concise. We will develop "Embers of the Gods" on a two year cycle with all of our team members working at indie rates. Every position on the team is essential and the budgeting for development is as lean as we can make it while still being able to support ourselves.
  • If we do not achieve our specific funding goals during this campaign, the funds that we do raise will pay our team to improve our prototype demo. We will continue to develop our core game code and improve our presentation to ensure that eventually we do achieve our financial goals.
  • Some of our perks are designed to get you involved with the development process of "Embers of the Gods". The alpha and beta tester perks let you get an insider's point of view, get you involved in identifying bugs, give you early access to the game, and keep you up to date with our progress.
  • A couple of our perks reward you with an in-game item and/or a bonus level. The item will be of artifact quality, which is the highest quality in the game, and the bonus level was our original demo level that ended up being too far out of scope for the vertical slice. There are many areas outside and inside to explore and several quests to complete, involving a village community alongside a majestic glacial lake. Parts of this region can be seen in our trailers and screen shots, but I don't want to reveal too much. This content is exclusive to our Franklin level contributors.

The Impact

Every dollar that is contributed to our cause will have a great impact on our ability to develop this game. We have been able to develop our prototype demo on a very small budget with only a few of us working part time. Your gifts will help us make our dreams come true and allow us to provide some really great entertainment for many people.

  • "Embers of the Gods" is Rick's personal vision quest to bring back some of the magic of old school RPG's that has been missing from the world for so long. "I believe that I can deliver a level of entertainment that will go down in history as one of the all time greats".

Risks & Challenges

There are minor risks and challenges that we will face, but our team is ready to overcome any obstacles that we encounter. Some of the challenges that we face are:

  1. Team dissolution
    • The team is all pro, but it could dissolve at some point for any given reason.
  2. Going over budget
    • It is possible that we may have some oversights that we have not accounted for, but with our careful planning and a deep understanding of the development process, we can achieve our goals within the established boundaries.
  3. Technology dependence
    • Our development platform, the Unity 3d game engine, is reliable and proven in games like Wasteland 2, Deus Ex: The Fall, and Assassins Creed: Identity, but there still remains our dependency upon Unity developers to continue to provide a stable and bug free platform.

What qualifies us to overcome these risks and challenges?

  • With years of Unity development experience between us, our team is competent and capable of overcoming any hurdles that may arise with our development platform. The team at Unity has a capable support network that we can reach out to and resolve issues.
  • If we do go over budget, it is not a game ender. We can always return to funding and continue our efforts through other means and investments.
  • Although our team consists of highly talented individuals that were hand picked for their positions, there are thousands of similarly talented developers that can continue where others have left off.
  • We have a collective level of accomplishment that assures our success and your satisfaction. The team was carefully assembled with all the right talents in all the right places to deliver a stellar product.
