"Kaila Galinat's okay, bye! is a genre-bending queer romp about self-acceptance in the face of personal rejection. " - All About Solo
WHAT IS THIS?
okay, hi!
So... what do you do when your relationship ends, your therapist ghosts you, and even your cat doesn't love you back?
My name is Kaila Galinat (she/they), and I'm the writer/performer of "okay, bye!": a solo show about rejection. After a series of serious heartbreaks in the last few years, I began writing this show and quickly was able to see the comedy in all that I'd been through. "okay, bye!" is a hilarious and curious exploration of the grief, wisdom, and humor of interpersonal rejection.
My team and I, comprised of Jasmine K Bernard, Christine Treuhold, and Sara Demetree, worked all through 2024 to bring this show to audiences in NYC (Theatre Row, The Tank, Paradise Factory Theater) and Philadelphia (Philly Fringe). It's now ready to head to the ultimate Fringe festival-- EDINBURGH!
In August 2025, we will have the absolute delight of sharing "okay, bye!" with the Fringe audience for six performances at a popular, central theatre (which will be shared once the contract is signed). And we need your help to fund the next chapter of what Alaina Johns has called an "engaging, well-articulated performance" (Broad Street Review).
WHAT DO WE NEED?
The Edinburgh venue rental, Fringe registration fee, and marketing costs (posters, flyering, online, etc.) are expected to tally up to more than $1,300 (USD).
We also aim to hold preview performances in NYC leading up to the Fringe, which could add another $600 to production costs.
We'll need surplus funds to cover flights (up to $3,000), lodging (??), local food, visas, and venue insurance. You'll see that this adds up quickly!
Due to this, we are aiming to raise up to $8,000 to make this adventure possible.
WHO ARE WE?
As of this moment, "okay, bye!" is being brought to Edinburgh by a team of only four artists and a stubborn dream (and a starting balance of only $400 from 2024 profits).
Kaila Galinat, Jasmine K Bernard, Christine Treuhold, and Sara Demetree are four artists who met at Conservatory in NYC. Kaila is lead producer, writer, and solo performer. Jasmine directs the show and at times acts as stagehand. Christine is our stage manager, lead tech, and has created many of the show's hilarious projections. Sara has been working on marketing and producing the show since its NYC debut in April 2024 (United Solo Theatre Festival).
