The Story
The film “Exodos 1826″ is a story about the “Exodos of Messolonghi” (or “Exodus”, Greek: Έξοδος), which refers to the output caused by the besieged defending warriors and civilians of Messolonghi, in Greece, when keeping the defense towards the Turkish and Egyptian troops was impossible and the outnumbered and surrounded Greeks were forced to make a desperate move for freedom, by exiting the walls of the town to fight the enemies, after suffering for weeks of formidable hunger and thirst, which was leading to certain death. The Turks had already been warned by spies and were prepared to avoid the hit. A heroic and also tragic event that happened in the night between the April 10th and 11th, 1826, during the revolution of 1821, and is recorded among the most notable events in the world military history.

The film “Exodos 1826″ is a war drama, based on the historical research of the author and director Vassilis Tsikaras. It is the story of 120 men, called “Vlachi” (Greek: Βλάχοι) from Samarina, Greece, who rushed to participate and support the Exodos of Messolonghi. It is an accurate depiction of this battle of the Greek Revolution with some fiction elements.

Why Exodos is a Unique Movie & Must be Filmed
The film “Exodos 1826″ will also have some extra scenes which will be used for a special documentary for the “Exodos of Messolonghi”, which will be screened on television and will be available on DVD.

The year 2016 is the celebration of 190 years from the great Exodos.

Exodos presents a heroic and significant part of the Greek Revolution and the war of Greece with the Turks, which helped the Greek nation get free after hundreds of years.

The movie will be screened in major international festivals(dates and places to be announced in www.ExodosMovie.com and in our social networks).

Exodos honors all the people who were involved in this great battle and is a tribute for their families and for all the Greeks all over the world. It is a reminder for the generations to come, of the Greek and world history and the devastating effects a war can have in a nation.

Great Cast: The cast is full of really experienced and famous actors, but also with new talented actors, with numerous notable works in cinema, television and theatre.

Authenticity: As all the drama and historic movies, so Exodos, as an authentic film depicting a great war event of 1826, has some special needs in order to be completed. Battle scenes, authentic traditional music, real village homes, handmade costumes, horses, weapons, Greek and Turkish dialect speaking actors and all the characteristics of the era, are the heart of this movie.

Impressive Images & Scenery Impressive battles, 3D effects, unique special effects, helicopter and drones filming, virgin natural landscapes and real depiction of traditional events, guarantee that the viewers will be “transfered” to 1826 and will live the story of the film.

Locations: The filming locations are selected with extra caution, and are some really well preserved old villages, mountains and other breathtaking landscapes in the pure nature, in addition to the urban fields, which are ideal for battlefields and impressive scenes. The wild beauty of Greece of 1826, as you have never seen it before.

Top Professional & Experienced Crew The filming crew is composed by some of the finest experts in the Greek Filming Industry nowadays. Vassilis Tsikaras, who is an award winning Greek director and screenwriter, will be the head of this team.

The Director of Photography, Dimitrios Stabolis, one of the top names in his field, with his experience will surely take the movie to the next level. Professional equipment with the latest and most advanced technology will be used to maximize the filming quality and a really experienced crew with numerous films on their back, will be the team of Exodos.

The Plot, The Historic Event of the Exodos & it’s Impact
The film deals with the difficult course these 120 people had been through, travelling from Grevena, Greece to Messolonghi, Greece to fight, passing through mountains and secret passages. Their course lasted 10 days during which there were many obstacles, unexpected events, tension, ambushes, conflicts, and of course deaths, elements that mark a true adventure. Their journey ends with a difficult battle. At the same time other important stories develop…

– The women and children left behind waiting for their men and relatives.
– The actions of the Turkish commander of Arta, which is under pressure due to the disappearance of a patrol in the mountains from where people from Samarina pass through.
– Ibrahim Pasha who is preparing to attack Messolonghi.
– Touching folk singing and traditional activities of the civilians and elder people in the villages to honor the dead and give courage to both themselves and the soldiers.
– Actions by the Greek and foreign politicians and reactions of the rest of the world for the event of the Exodus.

The end of the film is heroic, as the people of Samarina fight with the large army of the Turks on April 10, 1826, the day of the heroic Exodos from Messolonghi. Only 33 of them will survive.

Based on a true story, with fiction elements, for which the folk song “People of Samarina” (Greek: “ΠαιδιάτηςΣαμαρίνας”) talks about.

Impressive landscapes, horses, weapons, battle scenes, chase scenes, traditional costumes, old Greek villages, traditional Greek folk music, the authentic mood of the era, hardships, strong family and friendly relations, diplomatic events and many more special features, create a unique movie spectacle that nobody should miss. A part of the great history of Greece, on the screen.

The film does not intend to present an epic battle, but to show the touching story behind the struggle and the war, emphasizing on the tension, feelings and the characters of the Heroes, through the harsh circumstances of that time paying attention to all the major historic events and also in minor details. Also, it is the first time where heroes of the 1821 session of Macedonia, Greece, are depicted in a film with their traditional outfits and their habits.

The fall of Messolonghi led to dissolution of the third National Assembly of Epidaurus in 1826 and the resignation of the government of governor Kountouriotis. Abroad, it reignited the philhellenes and accelerated the procedures for reaching an agreement between the major powers, for the final solution of the “Greek issue”. It is a historical film that highlights and celebrates the heroism of the Greek people, displaying a historical event which provoked sympathy and admiration around the world.
