What is Extra Guac?

Extra Guac is a romantic comedy produced by a group of hardworking students at The Savannah College of Art and Design. It tells the story of Kevin, a twenty-five year old man who loses his girlfriend, Maggie, when she chokes to death on a burrito. One year later, Kevin has finally finished grieving, when Maggie returns to him in the form of a talking burrito. Confused, but ecstatic, Kevin and Maggie rekindle their relationship, but they are promptly interrupted but Kevin's new fling.

Despite the absurd and goofy premise, the material is not only meant to entertain you, but also tells a story of love, loss, and burritos as Kevin and Maggie both discover new things about their relationship.

Yeah, and? What else you got?

Extra Guac will not only have material unlike most short films, it will also look very different from most American comedies. We intend on using every single element of film making in order to deliver you the best, and most entertaining, product we can possibly create. In order for us to deliver this material to you in the most engaging way possible, we first need YOUR help.

Why so much money though?

As Alex explained in our little video, there are a ton of costs going into producing a short film.

Equipment Rental and Transportation: We have been fortunate enough to receive a lot of great equipment through SCAD, but in order to give you all the product we feel you deserve, we need to reach out to outside resources to rent some specialty equipment. This includes the Sony a7s, a 4K recorder, some pretty sweet lenses, truck rental, and more.

Locations: Although we are able to acquire most filming locations for free, there are some that are known for requiring a fee in order to film, in our case it is a restaurant, the first scene of Extra Guac.

Catering: We have many dedicated individuals working on Extra Guac, and in order to keep the motivated and energized, they need to be fed, especially while working for hours at a time.

Maggie, The Burrito: In order to bring the lovely Maggie back to life, we need to build a talking burrito puppet. The materials are not cheap, and the quality of the puppet relies on your contributions.

Set Dressing and Costumes: In order to create the crazy world that Extra Guac calls for, we intend on using every single visual element at our disposal in order to effectively tell this story.

Why Should I Donate?

Great question! This is not just about us making a short film, this is about making something for you all to watch, laugh at, and enjoy. This is a task that we are doing for you, but first we need some help.

Not only will you all get to help make Extra Guac and get to see it before anyone else, but we have numerous rewards that you might just like so much, that you will cherish them forever. Go ahead, take a look, and tell me that they’re not at least a little enticing.

Even if we reach our goal early, contributions are still welcome as every penny will go towards the production. From the cost of the camera rental and location fees, all the way down to individually wrapped candies for the cast and crew. My point is that every last drop of your contribution will be part of the process in making the product that is meant for your viewing pleasure.

The Extra Guac Team

Writer/Director, Willie Cooley (right) and Producer Grey Clawson (left) have been working together very closely on numerous projects together. Both Grey and Willie are senior Film and Television students at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Some call them the dynamic duo, but most call them two people who know how to get stuff done, and done well.

Producer, Daniel Poler is a senior Film and Television student from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Hailing from Venezuela, Daniel has professional experience working for  Mandt Bros. Productions based out of Santa Monica, California, with clients such as Showtime. A renaissance man of sorts, Daniel has directed, produced, and edited six short films as well as two documentaries.

Director of Photography and Man of Mystery, Alex Dubois will be responsible for visually capturing every savory moment. He has the perfect blend of professionalism, talent, and a great sense of humor that will really help bring the project to life.

Puppet craftsman, Preston Cook, will be building Maggie, the talking burrito. Preston has experience with puppet construction for the feature length adaptation of the popular podcast Tell 'Em Steve Dave, featuring a cast of almost entirely puppets.

Kat Moser is a Performing Arts graduate student at The Savannah College of Art and Design who will be portraying Maggie in Extra Guac. She has a background in both stage and film acting.

Frankie Alicandri is a freshman Performing Arts student at The Savannah College of Art and Design who will be portraying Becca in Extra Guac. Prior to attending SCAD, she has worked extensively in stage acting.
