"[Fawx and Stallion] isn’t afraid to be silly, but also doesn’t avoid more tender moments. It explores the timeless comedy and drama of a lavender marriage, depicts the queer experience in 1889 London, and manages a modern day commentary on police corruption. There’s nothing quite like it."

-Tal Minear, Creator: Re: Dracula, Sidequesting

Fawx & Stallion is a comedy-mystery podcast about the best detective team in London! Not that one. The other one. Across the street, and slightly to the left, at 224B Baker Street.

Hampton Fawx (Jeremy Thompson), James Stallion (Chris Vizurraga), and Madge Stallion (Katie McLean Hainsworth) have been waiting for 5 years in the shadow of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, for their opportunity to make a name for themselves as to-be-taken-seriously consulting detectives, with season one following their journey through their first major case.

Fawx & Stallion first aired in 2022 and 2023, and went on to place 10th in the first Audio Fiction World Cup. It also received the award for Best Ensemble at NZ Web Fest and Minnesota Web Fest, as well as Best Concept at NZ Web Fest. The show was also nominated for Best Comedy at the New Jersey Web Fest and the Minnesota Web Fest, and was an official selection at 5 festivals around the world. The show has reached listeners in over 50 countries with over 100,000 downloads and officially became a part of the Fable & Folly Network in 2023.

Season one followed Hampton, James, and Madge in 1889, as they solved The Case of the Crimeria Jewels over the course of 9 episodes and one long weekend (while Holmes and Watson were away working on some case about a dog in Dartmoor). Season two will be a brand new, ten episode, full-cast mystery and, in the great tradition of sequels everywhere, operates on a bit larger of a scale.

We pick up two years later in:

LONDON, 1891! At the press night of London’s first amusement park, and James’s newest investment venture, a ghastly murder is committed, and its intended target appears to be one of the illustrious residents of 221B. The only problem being, he’s since disappeared, leaving only the residents of 224B to solve the case… and this time, every eye in London has turned to them…

If season one was about the perils of anonymity, this season is about the perils of…ymity, forget I said that, didn’t work. Take Two!

Obviously there is a lot more going on in this season beyond that purposefully vague (and perhaps a bit misleading) pitch, and there is a HUGE reason for our secrecy on that front! But we do still think that since you’ve read this far, you’ve earned some teases about what the season has in store:

  • An increased scope! This season is far more ambitious than the first, in terms of the scale of the narrative and the extent to which we are widening out the world of the show. Which means…
  • New characters! They’re coming, whether you like it or not! We can’t wait for you to meet this illustrious lineup of new suspects, clients, and informants with very serious names like Lucius Peppermint, Dr. Iphegenia Brown, Desmond Highbottom, Farnsworth Truckle, Chauncy Grace, Joey Biscotti, and Fitzy. But that’s not all…
  • New settings! Did you catch that theme park mention in the season tease? Yeah, it’s a thing! One of this season’s settings is a full-scale, themed Victorian amusement park that we cannot tell you any more about other than the fact that it is the single silliest thing we’ve ever put (virtually) to paper and now hopefully into your ears. Speaking of other things we can’t wait to bring to you…
  • Holmes and Watson! That’s right, they’re in the public domain, which means they’re actually in this season! Listeners may remember them from our surprise minisode, The Case of the Well-Earned Holiday, but since they’re back in town (and right across the street) they’ll be pretty hard to ignore. Much like…
  • Puns! I cannot spoil any of these but rest assured they are plentiful and they are glorious. Also like…
  • More Set Pieces! The first season had an underground fight club that opened up into a lava pit. Just imagine what our incredible sound design team is going to bring to life this time! And speaking of “bringing to life…”
  • A murder this time! We’ve been reliably informed that a great way to raise the stakes from a season one jewel heist is to center this season around a murder case so… Yeah! We do, in fact, kill a (fictional) guy this time! It rocks*! (*narratively, not ethically, the Fawx & Stallion team in no way endorses murder as fun or cool unless it is very silly and fictional and did we mention deeply silly)

"This show is not only proof that you can tell funny, joyfully queer stories in historical fiction, but a rallying cry for more of them. A razor-sharp Victorian farce with a solid mystery, genre-perfect sound design, and a found family of characters it barely takes a second to fall in love with."

-Newton Schottelkotte, Creator: Where the Stars Fell

To get back to the ‘ymity’ bit from earlier… Season One of Fawx & Stallion was written from the point of view of a group of friends and found family trying to shake their arms and bang on the table to get anyone to look their way and give them the opportunity to prove that they have exactly what it takes to co-exist with their quasi-heroes-quasi-enemies, and perhaps stand on their own terms next to them.

Season Two is about what happens after they succeed. Once you’ve gotten what you’ve been fighting for, expanded your world, gotten your chance in the spotlight, what next? Are the pressures that come with losing the ‘anon’ worth it (I know but we’ll make it work, I promise), and at what point does Anonymity turn to Pseudonymity (a bit of a walk, but we got there) or even Infamy?

To tease a bit more–we have always been a show about the underdog, about the people who have always existed within famous historical stories, real and fictional, but have always existed just off the page. If season one was about what to do when you see a story being written without you in it, season two is about how even a story that is about you still has the potential to erase what makes you the person you are. It’s about partnership, storytelling, burnout, communication, and how to love and value someone in the way they need.

Fawx & Stallion is an independent production, and, coming from the grand tradition of DIY art,  we have always found it imperative to pay artists as fairly as we possibly can for their work on the show. Season One was largely self-funded, which we were happy to do, given how much we love making the show. It is also something that is not financially sustainable if the show is to continue.

Though we have some revenue streams due to outside funding and ad revenue through our partnership with Fable & Folly, we are setting a goal of $8000 to be able to increase the rates of our cast and creative, and ensure that production will move efficiently and quickly to meet a Fall 2024 release. This is a more ambitious project than any we’ve attempted before, and we are so incredibly excited to bring it to life and confident we can do so–but we will need your help to get there.

So glad you asked, detective--there are rewards for solving this particular case of the unfunded indie audio drama! Other than the innate joy of knowing you helped create a show that you will (hopefully) enjoy, we have an entire menu of backer rewards that we are so excited about!

Times and/or Standard Reader ($5)

You will get our eternal thanks for helping fund this season--in a decidedly public way! You will get a special shoutout on Twitter, and your name will be featured on the official show website as a backer!

Press Pass ($15)

In addition to all previous perks, you will also get early access to listen to every episode of the new season two days early!

VIP Park Guest ($30)

Now we're talking digital AND physical rewards! This tier features four Fawx & Stallion stickers, a physical invitation from James Stallion to the opening of his new theme park (which will feature heavily in season 2), and a PDF of the classic Sherlock Holmes story, A Scandal in Bohemia, with annotations from Hampton, James, and Madge.

Illustrious Benefactor ($50)

As an official benefactor of F&S, on top of everything else you will receive a physical thank-you note in the mail from either Hampton, James, or Madge--we're talking fancy handwriting, we're talking perfumed paper, we're talking wax seal, we're talking Fully Immersive Shit here!

Informant ($100)

As a new F&S Informant, you will get a personal audio message from either Hampton, James, Madge, or Archie! (Please keep requests PG). You'll also receive a signed copy of the 2x01 script, and an exclusive (and top secret) sticker related to S2 that might give you an exclusive look into the main new location at the center of our new case)!

Client ($250)

You are officially a client of Fawx & Stallion! Send us a mystery*, and the evidence, and Fawx & Stallion will solve** your mystery!

*PG-only mysteries

**Fawx & Stallion cannot guarantee the solving of literally any mysteries but you will get a .wav file of us trying our absolute best for 2-3 minutes

Team Member ($500)

You know that annotated copy of A Scandal in Bohemia we mentioned earlier? At $500, we'll mail you a hand-annotated copy of a Sherlock Holmes short story of your choice*, in character

*No novels , we're not doing the Mormon stuff from A Study in Scarlet

Business Partner ($750)

$750 would mean that you, listener, will have singlehandedly funded an entire episode of Fawx & Stallion season 2, and as such, you will be credited as Executive Producer of an episode of season 2–credits read, website credit, all of it!

Best Detective Team in London Tier ($1000)

In addition to all the other perks offered at previous levels, we will arrange a one-on-one 1 hr session where we (Ian & Lauren) can personally say thank you! Whether you want to chat, play a game of Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective and bond over losing to Sherlock Holmes, have virtual tea/Q&A, work through a particularly tough case, or get on your mic and record a cameo for S2, we'll make it happen!

$9000 - We get to pay ourselves for writing the show! You see that 2% for Writing on the budget pie chart? That's $200 we've set aside as is for writing the season--essentially $100 to each of our writers. Since we're also the producers and creators, we've made the executive decision to prioritize other areas for our budget on this crowdfund, but also, we worked really hard on the scripts and it would be really nice to get paid should we make this goal!

$10,000 - We will greenlight a holiday special we’ve been talking about making for awhile: Ambrosius’s Day Out! A full hour-long special from the point of view of Ambrosius the cat, who steals out of 224B and solves cat-crimes for a day.

$11,000 - We will adapt Hound of the Baskervilles. I swear to god, give us the money and we’ll do it. Maybe we’ll make a companion episode where Hampton, Madge, and James do a Mystery Science Theatre-style commentary track on it too, see if we won’t! Only one way to find out!

$12,000 - Ambrosius’s Day Out will be a full musical. We are very serious.

As with all crowdfund campaigns there’s the risk that we don’t meet our goal - it’s a reality we know going in - what we can assure you, as creators who have self-produced three seasons of audio drama (and again as students of storefront and DIY theater) we will find a way forward. But it will take longer. This season is ambitious so should we not make our goal, the decision would be to make it cheaper and quickly, or wait, pay our artists fairly, and do it right–and we will always choose the latter. All that to say, if you want episodes guaranteed in your podcatcher in 2024, tell your friends!

THAT BEING SAID, if you ARE in a position to donate to the season, you will receive not only a personalized reward from an indie team and an entertaining season of audio drama, but also the knowledge that you helped bring to life a story about communication, friendship, and love. You will have that knowledge that 100% of the profits from this goal will go directly into production costs. You will know that you helped independent artists be compensated for their time and efforts in providing you with professional and quality audio storytelling that will hopefully make your day a little sillier and brighter.

Also you can still write it off on your taxes. Probably.

If you’re not in a position to donate, that’s fine! Please send along our campaign to anyone who may be interested, share the show with a friend, and leave us a review on any of your favorite podcatchers. Word of mouth is crucial for campaigns like these! Share the campaign (and the show) on Twitter (we won’t call it the other thing), Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook, Bluesky, etc–we’re on all platforms @224bbaker!  We’ll also be hosting periodic sticker giveaways for people who share the campaign!

Also, check our socials, particularly our Twitter and our Tumblr, for periodic giveaways and events–engaging with any of those are free, hopefully fun, and boosting them will help get the word out!
