We are a U.S. non-profit, strictly volunteer organization which provides regular
preventive and curative health care mostly for Maasai people, air transport for medical emergencies, as well as health education
services.
We've been based at Arusha airport in Tanzania since 1983. We provide our services for people throughout the region regardless of religious
affiliation, ethnic background, or ability to pay immediately. We work in remote areas that are far from regular health care facilities.
FMS has full-time volunteer staff, most of whom are pilots and
paramedics. We also have volunteer doctors and nurses on stand-by from nearby hospitals and clinics. The
government of Tanzania has granted us important exemptions which help
us to provide our services as affordably as possible for the average
Tanzanian citizen
The area where Flying Medical Service operates is one of the most remote
and spectacularly beautiful places in the world. The people who live
here are equally spectacular. But when someone is sick, and medical
help is so far away, the vast distances can turn this beauty into a
nightmare.
We recently had an accident
That's why we are starting this campaign. The accident happened while performing medical outreach in the Tanzanian bush. Without an aircraft, we can't provide emergency flights or clinical services. Since insurance for the type of flying we do is prohibitive, we need to raise the money in order to purchase another one.
The kind of bush flying we do carries a lot of risks, but it is worth it, as last year alone we saw almost 30,000 people on clinics. The accident however, has left us with limited means in bringing our services to those in need. Tanzania, has the worst doctor to patient ratio
in the world with only one doctor for 125,000 people!
That is why Flying Medical Service is here.
The world gets smaller every day. We're all in this together. So, we humbly ask for your help in making this happen. Your kindness and generosity will enable our organization to resume it's work for the people who you will likely never see, but who benefit tremendously from it. Thanks
for being with us.
