Short Summary
Writopia Lab is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that runs creative writing workshops for young writers ages 8 to 18 in our 11 locations across three states. In these workshops Writopia Lab focuses on fostering joy, literacy, and critical thinking in children and teens from all backgrounds through creative writing.
After working as a Scholastic Awards Outreach Partner for two years in New York City, Writopia Lab was invited in 2012 by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers (the organization that runs the Awards) to administer the Hudson-to-Housatonic Writing Region. The H2H Writing Region serves young writers in nine counties north of New York City: Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess counties in New York; Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven counties in Connecticut.
Any student in grades 7 to 12 can submit to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Every year, hundreds of works by Writopia Labs students are awarded regional and national recognition by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the most of any single school or program nationwide. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards provide budding writers and artists with numerous opportunities for recognition, scholarships, and a sense of community on both a regional and a national level.
Any contributions would be greatly appreciated. Fundraising will be used to provide more scholarship opportunities for our incredible writers.
