Backstory
I'm husband to Jordyn Armstrong, Singer-Songwriter & Worship Leader from Fredericksburg, VA. Before we started dating in 2006, I made dinner for Jordyn at my surf shack in Newport Beach, CA and asked her what she wanted to do in life... she responded very simply, "music and ministry." As we fell in love, I committed my heart to marry "this beauty" and do everything I could to support her passion for music and ministry. I couldn't be more proud of Jordyn for passionately pursuing her calling!
Throughout our nine years of marriage, Jordyn has come through a significant process of freedom. I have seen Jesus bring healing to Jordyn and restore wholeness to places that were broken in her for a long time. Moreover, while Jordyn possessed musical gifting since childhood, I've watched worship wake up in her as a natural response to the Lord's work in her life. And when Jordyn was faced with joining the worship team at our local church in 2016, she grew real brave, real quick!
Early last year, as Jordyn became more and more immersed in worship leading, the Lord put on her heart to write five songs. Here's the best part... she had no idea why, and she didn't really play an instrument! Amidst a challenging year, Jordyn pushed through many barriers and setbacks out of pure obedience to God's stirrings in her heart.
You wanna know something crazy?! As Jordyn was working on the last verse of the fifth song, she saw on social media a posting by Bethel Music announcing Songsmith. That night, she couldn't sleep because she was petrified with the realization that she had to apply – especially in light of the impact that Bethel Music has had on her journey.
Although Jordyn felt that there was a purpose in the extensive process of applying for Songsmith, she never dreamed that she'd be selected (Note: I thought she'd get selected for sure... duh;). Attending Bethel Songsmith will be a major milestone for Jordyn, and I believe it will further equip her in fulfilling her calling.
Ultimately, Jordyn has a huge heart for our local church, our city, and region. And while she's working hard to prepare for Songsmith, what she will take away from it will help her to continue on her journey to inspire others' freedom process through worship and a genuine encounter with the presence of God through song.
When God leads you through a dark tunnel and you come into the light, we're called to turn around a help others through. And so goes Jordyn!
So, What's Happening?
My beautiful wifey was selected in December by Bethel Music as 1 of 30 people from around the globe to attend Songsmith – an Exclusive Songwriting Masterclass & Workshop.
It's an amazing opportunity for Jordyn, where she will...
- Spend three days refining the art of songwriting at Bethel Music's Songsmith in Redding, CA
- Experience a 1 on 1 song review and perform an original song and get expert feedback from the Bethel Music team
- Get hands-on songwriting coaching and teaching experience from the Bethel Music artists, including:
- Brian Johnson, Jenn Johnson, Jeremy Riddle, Steffany Gretzinger, Kristene Dimarco, Amanda Cook, Hunter Thompson, Hanna McClure, Paul McClure, Josh Baldwin, Kalley Heiligenthal and more... (are you freakin' kidding me?!!)
Seriously, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Jordyn to refine her songwriting with a handful of her heroes.
