Our Story
Green Eyes is a dramatic feature film from filmmaker Jack Gattanella. It's the story of Nic, a young photographer, and Ingrid, a young party girl, who meet by a chance encounter and have a moment of unexpected lust (the scene you've just seen is the immediate aftermath of that and the set-up for the rest of the film).
Nic is lost as he tries to grapple with the sudden passing of his girlfriend, Jamie, who perished in a car accident. Ingrid is a dancer who has little direction in life and indulges in drugs and the party lifestyle. What will their bond bring?
We plan to shoot the film later this Summer and into Autumn. We have a full cast (full list can be seen right here) all assembled and talented crew. We have locations being scouted as you're reading this and we plan to work with professional HD camera equipment.
The Impact
Whiplash Films aims to raise at the least $25,000 and at most $40,000. This gives us room enough to make the film comfortably financially and artistically; with a budget in this range we can ensure to have quality production values, acting and crew, and production and location accessibility, while at the same time ensuring that we can recoup our budget. With any lower than $25 thousand we would be put into a position to cut corners which, with the budget at present, is already tight and the quality of the production would be lowered.
What We Need and What You Get
At the moment, what goes into the budget breaks down as the following (for full budget details, please email at whiplashfilm@gmail.com):
- Payments for Principal Cast members, the lead and supporting performers, and Key Crew, such as the cinematographer, sound recordist and editor(s), and a composer for the music. (Producers and Writer/Director will receive no upfront pay)
- Food and transportation expenses, and lodging if necessary.
- Minimal equipment rental
- Promotional Expenses (i.e. submission fees to key festivals, postcards and a poster, etc)
And because we're shooting with HD, the workflow will be streamlined and production can run faster and smoother than if it were to be shot on regular 35mm film. On top of this, editing will be done in-house with the editor that is chosen for production, as will sound recording, reducing the cost that would incur with renting an sound-mixing/editing facility.
You can invest as low as $5, and there will be perks and digital goodies for those of you who want to submit small investments (i.e exclusive behind the scenes footage, DVDs, tickets to premiers, posters, a visit to the set). However, for people who invest $300 or more, there will be what is called 'first-position recoupment' once the film becomes profitable (you can invest as much as $5,000 to this end, full details can be found on the side of this page).
In other words, a person could own up to one-sixth of the film once budgeted. To those who make such investments to the production it will be considered a loan that Whiplash Films shall pay out first before other payments to cast and crew.
