At just five years old, Niña must endure the beatings of a delinquent father who forces her to work on the street. Deprived of her childhood, Niña takes refuge in a Little Bear, an old and dirty stuffed animal that lay in the trash and that comes to life before her eyes to make her feel like a girl for the first time.
The movie adaptation draws inspiration from "The Mute," a short story penned by Andrés Delfino,
An experienced Venezuelan author of 15 years. Delfino's tale delves into Nazi Germany and follows the journey of a girl and her teddy bear, who, despite being an inanimate object, possess the ability to perceive and experience the world around them. The story explores the limitations of a stuffed animal's perspective and how it affects their understanding of reality.
In this new adaptation, the same narrative is retold but is transposed to the harsh realities of street life for homeless children.
The short film has influences from Walt Disney, Hayao Miyasaki, and Makoto Shinkai.

In Disney films, backgrounds have always been an important part of creating a rich and detailed world in which the action takes place. Disney animators have put a great deal of time and effort into creating these backgrounds, and their meticulousness is reflected in the depth and texture that can be seen on the screen.
In our animated project, we would like to achieve such work where the backgrounds are rich in detail and colors, creating an immersive environment that helps the viewer feel transported to another world. We will achieve this through techniques such as the use of perspectives and layering to create a sense of depth on the screen. This helps the characters appear more realistic and believable, as they are situated in an environment that feels authentic and consistent.

One of the distinctive features of Studio Ghibli's productions is their ability to create incredibly realistic characters that are capable of conveying a wide variety of emotions through their movement and behavior.
From the sweet and shy Chihiro in "Spirited Away" to the brave and determined San in "Princess Mononoke," Studio Ghibli's characters are designed to be three-dimensional, with complex personalities and nuances that make them seem authentic and believable. This is thanks to the attention to detail that is paid to each character, from their physical appearance to their body language and the way they interact with other characters.
We would like to create characters with fluid and natural movements, making them even more realistic. We will use traditional animation techniques by hand-drawing each frame to achieve smooth and organic movement that mimics the way a human being moves in real life.

Makoto Shinkai is a Japanese film and animation director, and while his narrative approach and visual style are not radically different from the other directors I have mentioned, Shinkai stands out for his ability to use lighting and shadows in a way that gives depth and emotion to his films.
We will implement lighting and shadows not only to create ambiance but also to focus the viewer's attention on certain plot elements, such as a particular face or an important object.
In addition to lighting, another aspect in which Shinkai excels is his ability to highlight the background while reducing the details in the characters. This is a technique used to ensure that the characters do not get lost or blend into the background, which helps to maintain focus on the plot. Despite this, Shinkai's characters are often complex and full of emotions, and they are capable of conveying a wide variety of feelings to the viewer.
The technical team of the short film "Heartbeat" has the honor to invite you to be part of our project, giving us your valuable collaboration to make this production a reality. Without your support, this film would not be possible. With your effort and commitment, our goal is to achieve a wide projection by applying to national and international festivals. As a token of gratitude, we offer rewards for your support.
In addition, we are proud to have a young and professional technical and artistic team, committed and ambitious, whose work will be duly accredited and remunerated through artistic exchanges with the director and other members of the team.
We are launching a crowdfunding for the short film "Heartbeat" with two funding goals: the first is $150,000 and the second is $10,000. Every donation we receive will directly contribute to ensuring the exceptional quality of this project. The allocated budget will go to the recording, as well as the technical and artistic team.
We believe that surrender is not an option we can contemplate. Instead, we are governed by the value of perseverance, which motivates us to keep going and overcome any obstacle that comes our way.
In this presentation, a "Pie Chart" will be displayed to illustrate financial management for film production.
Option A
We will start with the first alternative, which consists of a figure of $10,000:
Creative team (writers, director, cinematographer, production designers, etc.): 35% ($3,500)
- These people are critical to the vision and creative execution of the production.
Actors: 20% ($2,000)
- Actors are a crucial part of any production and their talent and contribution are invaluable.
Technical crew (sound engineers, Gaffer, camera crew, etc.): 20% ($2,000)
- The Crew plays an essential role in realizing the creative vision, ensuring that the production is of excellent technical quality.
Production and logistics: 10% ($1,000)
- This portion of the budget is intended to cover general production expenses such as permits, equipment rental, transportation, and other necessary logistical items.
Post-production (editing, visual effects, music, sound mixing, etc.): 10% ($1,000)
- Post-production is a critical stage to achieve the desired final result, so it is important to allocate funds to ensure optimum quality.
Platform fees: 5% ($500)
- Here the Indiegogo platform fee is covered: 2.9% + 0.30*
This strategic approach to allocating funds seeks to balance the creative and technical needs of the production, ensuring that adequate resources are available at each stage of the filmmaking process.
Option B
Here we mention the second alternative, the one that we consider more difficult, but not impossible, it consists of a figure of $150,000.
Here is a proposal of how the budget of $150,000 for the filming could be distributed, prioritizing the animation team and allocating 5% to the Indiegogo platform:
Animation team: 40% ($60,000)
- The animation team will be responsible for creating the characters, visual effects, and overall animation. This includes both 2D and 3D artists, animators, modelers, riggers, illuminators, and any other professionals involved in the visual creation of the project.
Additional creative team: 20% ($30,000)
- In addition to the animation team, it is important to have an additional creative team made up of writers, voice actors, Director, and other professionals who will contribute to the development of the story and the overall quality of the production.
Production and logistics: 20% ($30,000)
- This percentage is intended to cover the costs of production and logistics necessary for filming. It includes the rental of equipment, animation studios, specialized software, and other logistical elements to carry out the animation process efficiently.
Post production and editing: 10% ($15,000)
- Post-production is an essential stage in the creation of animation projects. This percentage goes towards animation editing, visual effects, compositing, sound design, and any other process needed to get a high-quality, release-ready animation.
Marketing and promotion: 5% ($7,500)
- A part of the budget is allocated to the promotion and marketing of animation. This includes the creation of promotional materials, online and offline advertising, participation in animation festivals, expenses related to launch and distribution, among others.
Indiegogo Platform: 5% ($7,500)
- This crowdfunding platform allows additional financing to be obtained through donations from people interested in the animation project. Funds raised can contribute to any aspect of the shoot as needed.
Live Action
When conducting a crowdfunding campaign for the short film "Heartbeat", we are aware of the numerous risks involved in filming a fictional production. Among them, I am particularly concerned about the impact on the children involved. While the short film contains intense scenes, especially for the protagonist, I consider it of utmost importance to create a impactful and powerful experience without compromising the mental health of the children.
Although we are committed to taking all necessary precautions, it is essential to explore alternatives that avoid any harm to the children during the scene in question.
We have identified solutions to address this challenge:
- We will have the guidance of experts in child development, psychologists, and mental health professionals. They will provide additional guidelines and specific recommendations to ensure that the content of the short film is appropriate for the child audience, avoiding any potential harm.
- We will implement creative filming techniques with the aim of bypassing the direct representation of the most intense scenes. By using camera tricks, we will seek to convey the emotionality and emotional impact without exposing children to harmful situations.
These measures will allow us to maintain a focus on the artistic quality and narrative of the short film while protecting the well-being of the children involved in its production.
The next risk we are going to address is:
- The Government of Venezuela
The locations where the story is going to take place would be in public squares in the center of Caracas, which we know are completely militarized. Filming there would require a series of permits, which, upon learning about the story, they would not grant, as it would be partly a criticism of the Venezuelan government.
The solution to this problem would be:
- It would be to film in Colombia since I live here, and the plazas in Colombia have some resemblance to those in Venezuela. Clearly, they don't have the same elegance as Plaza Bolivar in Caracas, but that's what we would do to avoid being fined by the government, getting arrested, or even having our equipment confiscated.
Animation
One of the aspects that causes us some concern regarding the animated project is the possibility of not being able to obtain the necessary financial resources for its realization. However, our conviction is based on the solid understanding that we will have considerable and optimistic support from various entities involved in the field of financing and supporting cultural and creative initiatives.
If you don't have to make a donation, DON'T WORRY!
There are other ways in which you can help us and that is by spreading it on all social networks, remember that the important thing is that this project reaches many people and they see what this short film is about.
Remind them that there are ways to contribute, either in monetary form or by sharing.
This animated project will mark my first foray into this form of creative expression, although it will not be my first experience with crowdfunding campaigns. My two previous projects were launched on the ULULE platform, and now I have decided to embark on a new adventure using INDIEGOGO as a crowdfunding platform. My enthusiasm for this project is immense. In addition to my experience in animation, I have previously directed two live-action short films: "I Don't Want to Forget You" and "Leah's Dream". The latter was selected in ten festivals, earning three awards and honorable mentions. Additionally, I have created numerous music videos and corporate productions for various companies.
I have the honor of co-directing a short film with the talented artist Sebastián Gamboa. Our relationship began a few years ago when I discovered his impressive 3D animated project, titled TEC+, on the television channel CONCIENCIA TV. Since then, we have forged a friendship and I shared with him my own project in development. I invite you to take a look at TEC+ below:

At this moment, Mr. Gamboa is immersed in the creation of his first animated feature film, entitled "Los rompetumbas", which has been selected to participate in the Marché Du Film at the prestigious Cannes festival, thanks to its outstanding script.
Diego Sánchez is an outstanding artist with an 8-year career, during which he has worked on various projects aimed at a wide range of audiences. His skills range from designing educational book covers and children's stories to creating animated songs for kids, where he handles character design, backgrounds, props, and other essential elements. Additionally, he plays a crucial role in the conception and design of characters for our short film. You can also check out some more of his work below:
