We are Cryptopsy, an extreme metal band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Apparently, we are a "boundary pushing tech juggernaut" and we sound like "we’re racing each other into a giant meat grinder, on motor bikes, and that we all have rabies and advanced degrees in jazz composition" (according to Mad Sourman from MetalSucks.net).

INDEPENDENT ARTISTS

After being on a record label for our entire career, in 2012, we decided to go independent.  We released our album Cryptopsy and we were extremely pleased with the outcome.  Supported by our fans, we distributed and sold thousands of albums across the entire globe and had the opportunity to tour Japan, Western and Eastern Europe, the UK, South America, Scandinavia, Canada and we even got to play on a metal cruise ship. Without fans coming out to the shows, buying our merchandise and our music, this would never have been possible.

MORE MUSIC

Cryptopsy has a lengthy writing process as we strive to top our previous release and challenge ourselves creatively.  After three years, many of you are eager to hear new material.  We listened: Instead of an album, we will release a series of EPs entitled The Book of Suffering. This approach will allow us to put out new music more often while remaining true to our standards of quality.

With your support, we will be able to fully share our creative vision of extreme technical music through enhanced sound, original artwork, videos and live show visuals.

This is how we would breakdown our funding:

RECORDING/MIXING/MASTERING

Cryptopsy’s sound is all about intricate details.  Although we are extremely brutal, a great deal of thought has gone into the tempos, time signatures, guitar and bass riffs, vocal patterns, lyrics and samples. For this reason, we will work with respected sound engineers to bring out the subtleties in the music. First, all of the writing and tracking will be done at The Grid, our guitarist Christian Donaldson’s new fantastic studio here in Montreal. Second, the mix will be in the hands of the legendary Jason Suecof in Florida. And finally, the great Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New York will handle the mastering.

LIVE SHOW

As performers, we aim to leave everything out on the stage every single night.  We now want to visually tie in the concept of the EP with updated banners to enhance our concert experience.

MUSIC VIDEO

The release of new Cryptopsy music videos was one of your top requests.  For The Book of Suffering Tome 1, we will produce a professional music video to visualize the technical brutality of our sound.

WHAT IF WE SURPASS OUR GOAL?

Our goal is the bare minimum required to record/mix/master this EP, as well as produce artwork, a music video and updated banners.  But there is more that we would like to create for you such as a play-through video, a tour documentary and more music.  As we get more funding, we will be able to give more back to you.
