Short Summary
Caught in a blazing ring of fire, a member of the rural fire service recounts his harrowing, near-death experience during the 2018 Caloundra bushfires. This documentary explores the relationship between firefighter and fire, and the toll taken on mind, body and soul in the wake of worsening fire seasons.
What We Need & What You Get
Our goal is to reach $3000 to completely cover costs of transportation, catering, and accommodation. Any money that is left over following the completion of the project will be donated to a suitable charity which goes towards helping the firefighting cause.
The Impact
The 2019/20 summer fire season brought with it the worst bushfires in Australia’s history. Sending shockwaves around the world, the catastrophe caused so much damage and destruction that it has become known by many as the ‘black summer’. With more than 24 million hectares set ablaze, an area bigger than England was reduced to cinders.
Wildfire aims to highlight the lives of our volunteers and emergency servicemen and women who have sacrificed so much for our health, happiness, and safety at the expense of their own, including that of their families as well. The hardships they face is something we can all learn from, however, with the advent of global warming, fire seasons are clearly getting worse as the planet heats up.
As conditions get more extreme as a byproduct of climate change, Wildfire will shine a light not only on the physical health effects, but also the psychological effects of fighting fires.
Risks & Challenges
Being entirely crew funded, any small amount will greatly assist us in being able to travel out of state where one of our interview subjects are, as well as pay for accommodation as we travel up and down Queensland for further interviews.
This is an ambitious project, and we need your help!
Other Ways You Can Help
If you are unable to contribute, that's okay. Spread the word about our cause to friends and family, and if you can, donate to your local fire safety facility.
