About Poppy:

Lindsay and Lauren had collaborated previously on the web design of lifestyle blog, Feathers + Futons. Then, suddenly, Lindsay had a crazy idea. The first person she talked to was Lauren. Three weeks, 100 emails, and two psyched bloggers later, Poppy was Born. Obviously, she is a girl.

  • Poppy Magazine is an online publication engineered by a talented team of 7 which focuses on the fantastic, creative endeavors of the design and blogging community!
  • We recognized that the number of digital magazines was quickly increasing but also noticed a gap between the two age groups that are primarily targeted- a gap between creative college students and those with established careers. Inspired by the entrepreneurial endeavors and magazines created for both of these target audiences, we decided to stop feeling left out and show the design world what we post-college, no college, and pre-career types could do!
  • Not only did we recognize a difference in target audience, we saw that magazines primarily collaborate with major brands and companies while smaller independent artists are often overlooked. Magazine subscriptions are free, but collaborations and sponsorship by big name brands help keep the publication operating, compensate the team for their work, and fund necessities like giveaways, photoshoots, conferences, and trips to Fashion Week.
    • Currently our sponsorship only covers a small portion of our hosting costs, team members are uncompensated, and giveaways are funded by either the goodwill and support of an independent designer or contributed by a Poppy Editor.
  • We were recently compared to the likes of Rue, Lonny, Matchbook, Adore, and Ivy & Piper in an article about digital magazines by IMRE HOME IQ... and with only one issue published so far, we're proud of this accomplishment!
... But we want more.

Our Goal:

The goal of our campaign is to raise enough money to send 2 team members to Charlotte, North Carolina Fashion Week: Editor-in-Chief, Lindsay, and Fashion Editor, Sara.

We chose Charlotte because both Lindsay and Sara live in North Carolina, and Charlotte Fashion Week focuses on emerging new talent. We would like to have the opportunity to provide our readers with fashion news as it's happening straight from the runway and to discover and promote the careers of new, talented designers. Creating and working on Poppy Magazine has been an empowering experience, and we'd like to be able to attend events we're passionate about so we can turn around and empower you, our readers.

What We Need in Order to Attend Fashion Week:

Our fundraising goal is $1500, which will cover our expenses for the trip and equipment to properly capture the experience for our readers. The absolute bare minimum that we can raise and still attend Charlotte Fashion Week is $1000; that amount will be just enough to get us in the door and give us a place to sleep.

  • Expenses include tickets for shows, 3 nights in a hotel room, and, if possible, some gas and food.
  • Equipment needed includes a camera that we can also use in the future for photoshoots.
  • If we do not reach our full goal, any money that we raise will be put towards maintenance of the Poppy Website and the purchase of hosting/issuu.

The Impact:

Our goal is always to provide creative, interesting, and up-to-date (or ahead!) for our readers. In the process we hope to help out talented independent designers and bloggers who may not necessarily have the funds to advertise and promote themselves. Unfortunately right now we don't have the funds to help advertise and promote these individuals either.

Ways You Can Help Us Reach Our Goal Without Outright Donating:

We understand that you may be in a financial spot just as difficult as the one we're in, but there are many other ways that you can help:

  • Spread the word about our campaign on your blog, twitter, facebook, or any social networking site!
    • Be sure to use the Indiegogo share tools!
  • Share our campaign with friends and family.
  • Sponsor Poppy by purchasing ad space in our magazine (e-mail sponsor@poppymag.com)

We are extremely grateful for your time, interest, and support in helping us reach our goal and make our vision a reality!

Thank you!
