We are colleagues  from Aramex and InfoFort challenging ourselves to hike Mountain Kilimanjaro to fund raise and empower 25 youth in Palestine, Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon with College scholarships through Ruwwad for Development.

Before telling you about ourselves, let us tell you about our cause:

Ruwwad is a non-profit community empowerment organization that helps disadvantaged communities overcome marginalization through youth activism, civic engagement and education. Through its Youth Empowerment program, Ruwwad grants college scholarships to youth and in return, they conduct at least four hours of community service. The organization educates 150 - 170 youth annually and has educated 725 youth since its inception in 2005. So Who Are We?

Abed Shaheen - CEO of InfoFort

My passion is aligned with what I do at InfoFort in terms of preserving intellectual and knowledge capital, protecting data and ultimately enabling the progress of individuals, companies and economies. I believe that organizations can be utilized to do good in general and in empowering information-driven sustainability initiatives such as what we have done with InfoCARE (http://infofort.com/infocare )

Education is key to improving and developing individuals and societies. It is fundamental to the change process. What matters most to me is how education can help people be free from unwanted or forced dogmas, economic-based followership and modern feudalism and slavery. It is the way we get liberated. 

As someone who has benefited from scholarships and education support in my life, I want others to have similar and even better opportunities than I had. This is why I am fundraising to secure 25 full college scholarships through Ruwwad, an organization with a noble goal and a great track record in youth and education empowerment. I was raised in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. I knew what it feels like to be told that there’s no hope, there is no future. To be on the outside looking in.

But thanks to my parents' determination, I was one of the lucky ones. My family moved to the UAE where we started a new a life; one full of possibilities and hope. Sadly, many, hundreds and thousands, are never given that opportunity. The chance to get a good education, to go to school and university. To get a college degree and to seek a decent paying job. This is not just my personal story, it’s the story of my people. 

Many youth are put in a position where they have to support their families, often very large families. Their sacrifices mean that they miss out on experiencing what every person deserves: to learn, enjoy life and dream of a better future.

I hope that by giving to Ruwwad’s education scholarships, you will be helping realize the dreams of 25 youth. The smallest donation can make a big difference.

I always try to trace all the things I’m blessed with back to mentorship and support I received from wise and generous people in my life. It really always goes back to someone who put the time and effort to believe, challenge or invest in others.  This realization keeps me always looking for opportunities to give back and empower others in all ways that I can.

I have witnessed Ruwad’s impact on community development and youth education and decided to contribute to its mission. It is truly a safe space that empowers youth with multiple resources to achieve their own goals.
