In Summer of 2018, Woodzick was cast in Nirvamlet, produced by Band of Toughs. They played Laertes in this Nirvana/Hamlet mash-up, and wrote an original song for Laertes to sing over Opehlia's grave before the big ol' fight with Hamlet.
When they thought about what they wanted to do for their final project for their Shakespeare in Community class at CU Boulder, they decided it might be cool to write the rest of Laertes' album and imagine a world in which Ophelia goes on tour with Laertes and doesn't fricking die. As they began writing the show, they decided instead of playing Laertes, they wanted to play a dragged up Ophelia and make the character a queer performance artist and filmmaker.
To make sure everything sounded super awesome, they collaborated with powerhouse singer/songwriter Jules Murtha.
In this rock and roll re-telling of the Hamlet narrative, Ophelia is inspired by the aesthetic of Amy Winehouse. We hope to premiere this show at the inaugural Denver Fringe Festival. Even if we're not selected in that lottery, we know in our heart of creative hearts that this show has legs and are committed to producing it locally within the year.
Your contributions will help us to produce the album and the world-premiere production. Any money above and beyond the first $2,000 will help us put our original music on Spotify for all to hear and help us tour the show to fringe festivals around the country.
