On the weekend of the summer solstice this June, I did a soft PR launch of HUM, the world’s first robotic, artificially intelligent vibrator. By “soft launch” I mean I climbed on top of a table in my leather jacket at a party inside of a sailboat out at Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay, held up a bottle of scotch and screamed, “MY NAME IS SUNNY AND I AM THE EVE OF ROBOTIC SEX.”
I am sober now but the sentiment stands. I have discovered something new and it is a sex toy created by multiple physicists.

THE DESIGN
Because this was a complete reimagining of what a sex toy could be, the technologies for HUM had to be designed and built from the ground up. From the 3D printed internal structure, to the custom circuitry and pressure sensors, to thousands of lines of sophisticated computer code, HUM is a toy built like no other.

The innovations show on the outside as well. HUM is clad in a single piece of soft, ultrapure, medical grade silicone. The long-lasting lithium battery inside is charged wirelessly, with the included charging base. With the wireless charging, there is no need for ports, jacks, or any kind of break in the surface.
The physical construction not only makes HUM beautiful, but it is durable, hygienic, and completely waterproof as well.
Of course, all of this hardware would be nothing without the brains to make it all work. We used our decades of experience writing advanced computer code - ranging from large scale physics simulations, to signal processing and data analysis, to computer control of laboratory experiments - to bring our new toy to life.

THE EXPERIENCE
HUM is also one of the easiest, simplest toys to use - all the technology is on the inside. Because of the sensors, you don’t even need to press buttons. HUM feels your touch and motion, and creates vibrations that change in harmony with your body. Just turn it on and use it.
HUM creates a personal, intimate experience, that nothing else on the market can provide. It's a toy for the new generation, a complete rethinking of what a sex toy can be. With HUM, you create an experience as unique as you.
Below is just one example. It’s a graph of data taken from HUM’s maiden voyage. HUM can “see” the orgasm (can you?), and responds in sync, drawing out and accentuating the experience.

ARDUINO BASED PROGRAMMING
In order to create HUM, we had to build our own electronics and code.
But why reinvent the wheel? The coding system used in HUM is based on
the wildly popular, open-source Arduino standard for microcontrollers.
For those feeling up to the challenge, HUM allows you to write and
upload your own code. The interface gives you access to to all the
hardware, including the sensors, buttons, and motors, as well as advanced DSP processing, such as filters and running statistics.
Programs are uploaded via bluetooth, which can also be used to
interface directly with the device. The possibilities are up to you …
Of course, if writing code for a vibrator isn't your thing, no problem. HUM was made to work right out of the box ... just turn it on, and go!
GET HUMMED
We built HUM from the ground up. From the 3D printed internal frame, to the custom electronics and pressure sensors, to the seamless overmolding technology, the design required innovation at every corner.
Most of this was done in our workshop. For scaled up production, we are working with local manufacturing partners with decades of experience manufacturing high quality medical devices and consumer electronics.
We have built our prototypes and are ready to finalize our design, begin large scale manufacture, and bring HUM to the world. Support our IndieGoGo campaign, and be one of the first people to experience the future of sex toys.
In order to make sure that you get the best possible device, delivered on time, we are targeting April to finish manufacturing and deliver the first round of devices. These will be shipped on a rolling basis, depending on demand.
