Ice & Quiet - Documentary production
The Game Plan
Imagine living without hearing. You'd miss the sounds of the world - music, laughter, traffic noises as you try to cross the road, a friend shouting out in the street behind you, the roar of a crowd at a hockey game. Even the whistle of the referee or call of your teammates as you tried to play. Would you even try to play?
But what if there was a way you could despite this? What if deaf hockey was a thing?... Oh wait, it is. And it's got an exciting story we want to share with the world.
The Ontario Deaf Hockey Association was founded in 2011 to bring deaf and hearing individuals and athletes together and provide pathways in sport and hockey for deaf athletes in the province. As our athletes prepare for the Deaflympics (yeah, that's also a thing), we're putting together a documentary about deaf hockey to help build awareness of the sport and garner support for the love of the game.
And also just because it a fascinating topic, right?
As part of the documentary, we've partnered with many different organizations including the Hockey Hall of Fame, Glide,Karbon Sports, CrossIceHockey, Epic Toronto and Kobe Sportswear.
It's going to be an intriguing and arousing short documentary with game footage along with some fan interviews. But before we can put it all together, we need your help Raising CA$3,000 to cover things like equipment, location and interpreter costs. The remaining amount will be put back into the Ontario Deaf Hockey Association to ensure that the program's success to help athletes accomplish their dreams of playing hockey and representing their province and later, Team Canada at the Deaflympics.
So if you love hockey, are curious about a different version of the game or just want to be involved in an exciting documentary that will score goals at film festivals, here's your chance to get involved. We've got some great perks for all your generous support and because we're still in production there's even opportunity to be interviewed on screen!
What Winning Looks Like (what we need & what you get)
We're not asking for a lot, but every little bit you can contribute will make a significant difference. Your generosity will not only bring this documentary to life, but also give a voice to the voiceless and enable deaf kids and adults around Canada to dare to dream.
We're aiming to raise CA$3,000 for the short documentary and additional funds for the Ontario Deaf Hockey Association and the athletes involved.
As a thank you for your support, we've got some fantastic perks including social media shout outs, a download of the documentary and even an opportunity to be interviewed on the documentary during a game or have an acknowledgement in the credits.
So get involved today and give a voice to deaf hockey players across Ontario and Canada.
The SIGN-ificance of the Impact
Everyone of us is born with a dream of greatness. For many, that dream is in sport - a universal language which brings diverse groups of people together. But sadly, access to sport isn't always as easy as it should be.
According to the Canadian Association of the Deaf there are currently 350,000 culturally deaf Canadians and 3.15 million Canadians who identify as hard of hearing. Like with the hearing population, many love their hockey!
Deaf hockey breaks down the barriers for these fans and athletes and the Deaflympics provides a world class stage for our top athletes to represent their country. It's an exciting sport with only a few small changes to the way it's played alongside everything you love our about our nation's game.
The documentary will raise awareness of this version of the game and help our stars as they work hard to represent themselves and their country. It will also show those who have a disability and those hockey-loving kids that they're not alone. They don't have to remain on the sidelines and they can still aspire for greatness now and in the future.
Will you help a child dream?
The Opposition (risks & challenges)
Putting a film together is never easy. Which is why we appreciate all of the hard work the cast and crew have put into this to make this film come to life and be able to spread the awareness about sports without barriers. We want to be able to have a message that if you can play, you can play.
