The Project...
Momentum is a nonprofit, contemporary dance company known for thinking and performing outside the box when it comes to traditional dance concepts. This season is no different. We have funneled all of our energy into a new way of engagement with our community - IMPACT.
IMPACT is a multimedia, contemporary dance production reflecting on different social issues and landscapes centered around our local Anchorage community. Working with composers, projection artists, filmmakers, and photographers, the Momentum dancers have built a production that draws from local stories, observations, and our own experiences living here in Anchorage.
In order to make our work more accessible to the community at large, we have taken this show out of the theatre and placed it directly into the world by creating a traveling stage and set, scheduled to perform in 6 Anchorage neighborhoods this April.
Almost there...
We are so close to reaching our funding goals and we have just a few weeks to raise what we need to pack up this production and perform it across Anchorage. Your support will go towards;
- The cost of our traveling crew
- The finishing touches on our set
- The completion of the documentary of this 10 month journey
- Our ability to pay the incredible artists that have made all this happen.
Our Message...
IMPACT strips away the superficial layers that cling to us as definitions; race, gender, economic status, education, or background, and looks at common issues that we face in our communities that cross those borders, the strengths and struggles we all possess irregardless of where we come from. Our message is one of choice.
- How do we choose to interact with each other?
- What is our impact on the people and community around us?
-
What is our part in promoting a culture of helping others?
This show is about reminding ourselves that we have to constantly re-engage with the larger community or we risk allowing its darkest sides to become normal.
Making An Impact...
-
As part of our commitment to helping others, we are providing you the opportunity to donate $5 of your ticket cost to a Anchorage based organization that will be with us at each event : The Covenant House, AWAIC, Green Dot Alaska, and a special designated group, chosen by the community we are performing in each evening.
Make sure you arrive early to participate in our own live version of a 'pick, click, give' program
Other Ways You Can Help...
We know not everyone can afford to donate. If you'd like to lend a hand we could use your help
- Getting the word out about this campaign. SHARE IT!
- Coming to the show with friends and family!
- Volunteering at a show (this gets you a free ticket to see it so why not?!)
- Take a second to contemplate your role and impact in your own community. In what ways can you get more involved or make a difference?
