The iRBeacon has a range of up 50 meters / 150 feet making the use much more easy and versatile than any regular remote.
Take photography for example. A regular IR remote will work within about 5 meters / 15 feet. Look at the demo below to check how the iRBeacon does.
The range is of course highly depending on the environment and the phone used as well.
We even went out to the park to shoot around with the iRBeacon and a DSLR.

FAQ
Have you considered enabling “macros”? e.g. clicking one button which executes a series of commands, with customizable preferences and settings.
Absolutely. We are working on a macro feature, and it will be available in the first public app.
Is the iRBeacon app capable of learning/recording any remote?
Yes, even those with extra features like dedicated Netflix buttons or similar.
Why bluetooth and not over wifi?
Bluetooth is incomparably cheaper and more energy efficient. Plus we love it.
How is it “able to control your device from anywhere in the world”?
With the cooperation of smart hubs. We are working closely with several smart hubs out there. Stay tuned for details and announcements in the coming weeks.
Could the iRBeacon also be integrated into a Home Automation setup (such as Ninja Sphere or Smartthings)?
Absolutely. We are working on it quite a lot.
What’s the maximum distance the iRBeacon can be from the phone?
The iRBeacon's Bluetooth range (the distance between the iRBeacon and the and your smartphone or tablet) can go up 50 meters (about 150 feet), while the infrared range (the distance between the iRBeacon and the controlled device) goes up to 1-2 meters (about 3-6 feet) to maximize battery life and ensure a stable connection. This of course depends on your smartphone’s Bluetooth radio as well as the environment you are in.

Can I still use the original remote together with the iRBeacon after sticking it on top of the IR receiver?
Absolutely. You actually have to stick the iRBeacon just next to the receiver and so the original remote will still work.
Do you need one iRBeacon per device?
The iRBeacon is a tiny tool that you stick on all devices, and you can control all of them from your phone with the same app. We don’t believe in putting an IR transmitter in the middle of the room, however if the iRBeacon has line of sight it will work. Sticking an iRBeacon on the devices is the most elegant and simple way to turn your devices smart.
I have several family members in my household. Can all of us download the app and use our phones as remotes?
Yes, of course and much more. You can set your personal preferences and set the way the iRBeacon should react to your presence separately for all of you.
