I'm shooting a one hour stand up comedy special called "Shut Your Cake Hole" in The Helix in Dublin on the 11th January
I am Joe Rooney. Most people know me from the character Father Damo in Father Ted and Timmy in Killinaskully. I have also been performing stand up comedy all over Ireland and the world for twenty years. I've performed at festivals in Edinburgh, Moscow and Kansas City to name but a few.
I want to make a live recording of an hour of my best material with an audience of 130 fans in the Helix Theatre in Dublin on January 11th 2020. I want this material recorded and out there so people who are fans of my TV work but haven't seen my stand up can see what I'm about.
But most of all I think this will be a brilliant fun evening and I would love as many as you as possible to attend and enjoy this event. It will be recorded as will the meet and greet so that all of us can remember the fun we had.
What We Need & What You Get
I need a minimum of €5700 for venue and equipment hire, to pay a camera crew and to pay for post production. We need to hire 4 cameras, a jib ( a jib is a boom device with a camera on one end and a counterweight on the other ), lights and mics. We also need to hire the venue and pay staff on the night. Plus we need to pay for four camera crew and a floor manager/warm up person to get you all jizzed up on the night and let you know that if a camera is on you or you see yourself in a monitor not to look all self conscious or start waving at your granny like they do on the Late Late Show but to ignore it and continue enjoying the show! By the way I won't be paying myself on the night. All the money goes to making the project happen.
You can contribute to raising the money. But I don't expect you to contribute for nothing. There are whole range of ways you can help me achieve this goal. You can simply buy tickets for the event. You can come to a meet and greet before the show and get a recording of a personal message for a friend or family member. You can get a recording of the event with lots of extras and a personal message sent straight to your inbox before the recording goes on sale. You can book me for a private show in your house or place of work. I can come to your business and do a full day workshop and have everyone who attends doing 3-5 minutes of comedy that evening.
As it's coming up to Christmas I think tickets and the add-on perks would be a brilliant Christmas present and knowing you've already booked will be a brilliant way to brighten up the January blues. If I don't reach my goal the recording will still go ahead and I will make up the difference from my personal savings so you can book tickets for the night knowing it will definitely go ahead.
The Impact
I'd really love if the many people who have enjoyed my comedy from all over the country could contribute and come on the night. If you are not from Dublin or nearby perhaps make it part of a night away. The Helix is a lovely venue and this is a very intimate gig so we can all have fun together and you would be making a dream come true for me and when I sell it to Netflix and achieve world wide fame you can say, "I was there". I would really really appreciate your help with this project. In fact if I can raise the target amount it would be the best Christmas present I could ever get!
Risks & Challenges
I know it is risky putting this out there. I keep thinking "what if no one is interested and I just have to run away with my tail between my legs" . But ah feck it! As they say nothing ventured nothing gained so I have decided to put it out there and I'll do everything it takes to make this happen. One way or another it's going to go ahead and the night will be a great night out for us all!
Other Ways You Can Help
If you can't make it on the night or can't contribute you can still help me by getting word out about this event to all your friends. So please share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even Bebo so people from the noughties can come. Actually even just tell people about it using your mouth. Yes, remember that way of telling people things?
