Summary
"What are you doing with your life?"
Ah, the question that every young professional dreads, but must face at some point in their life or another. I have been avoiding this question like the plague ever since starting college and realizing that what I loved to do was most emphatically *not* what I loved learning about. Throughout my post-collegiate life, I have witnessed with stronger and stronger conviction that a person's job, career, and academic interest are not necessarily all the same thing. So far, I have been lucky enough to pursue jobs and academic interests and, now, I would like to pursue a career: writing.
Writing has always been a part of me, the strongest bridge I seem to have between the world(s) inside me and the world around me. It is the way I can communicate. It is the way I can show people how much they mean to me and what they have taught me. It is my expression. It is my magic.
And I feel a little stupid for trying to ignore it as much as I have. Writers don't make very much money. Writers are crazy. Writing is a dying art form. Anyone can be a writer... Lies I've been told and have been telling myself for years have kept me trying to do something else with myself.
Well, I am ready to embrace the writer in me. I'm ready to forgive myself for all my silent days. I'm ready to dedicate myself to my craft. I hope I've proven that to some degree, by publishing my first novel, So Echoes the Thunder. I have learned so much through the experience, and I never want to stop.
However, this presents a problem. As throughout most of this project, I've been using my brother's computer (thanks, Tris!) and am now using my mom's laptop (thanks, mom!). My own laptop is unusable, which is why I am starting this campaign. In order to be a writer, I need a reliable laptop, so I can write and save and access my stories, as well as be able to electronically handle all the steps towards publication.
I also recently had the chance to speak with a wonderful woman about setting up a website for me, as an author, that could link me to my books' pages, social media, and several other features. So this campaign is also to raise money for creation of that webpage.
What I Need & What You Get
To be the best writer I can be, I need a reliable writing tool. In the past, I have gotten less expensive windows laptops, and they have all failed within the first year of purchase. So, this time, I am raising money for a Mac. The first $1200 I raise will go towards a Macbook. The rest will go towards my website and purchasing a decent word processing software.
In return, along with all the stories your little eyes, ears, and hearts could hope for from me, there are quite a few perks for you. I love getting people involved and the more people I can work with, collaborate with, and give to, the better!
Other Ways You Can Help
If you are as poor as I am, and cannot offer monetary support- that's ok. I still love you! I still want to share this experience with you. You could share this page with your friends. You can cheer me on and help get my name out there to the world. You can bring me smiles and caffeine when I'm on a writing streak. And, most importantly, you can still read my stories.
After all, that's what this is all about. Getting the stories heard.
