Short Summary
Hi, I'm Huriyyah. I'm a writer, director and producer and I have two passions in life - telling stories and helping others to do the same. For this reason, I serve as the Executive Director of the Black TV & Film Collective (BTFC), this role is the best of both worlds for me.
Last year we began to talk as an organization about creating an official BTFC channel that would highlight the work of BTFC members, would create a way for members to increase their experience and credits and would entertain people like believe like we do that great stories told by and about people of color are important. The love that Keloid Season One has gotten thus far from BTFC members, the indie community and from viewers has really exceeded my expectations. We have to come back strong in Season 2!
My hope for Season 2 is the same as the hope I had for Season 1, that the show brings more resources and attention to the Black TV & Film Collective, that the artists and professionals who work behind the scenes and in front of the camera, use it as a tool to advance their careers, and that it helps members build relationships here in the NYC film community. But just as important, I wanted to give people who look like us and who also love a good story, the chance to immerse themselves in this supernatural drama we'd created. That's why I put most of the funds to create Season One on my credit cards. It was worth it and I'd do it again, but the cards are still near full. Lol. So we need your help.

What We Need & What You Get
I've been producing for almost 10 years now so I know how to keep our budgets low, but the production value high. Don't believe me? Take a look at everything the $10K will cover. Still don't believe me. Check out Season One. I think we did a pretty good job with it and the budget was lower than what we are raising today.
- Pre-production: equipment for test shoots, casting, stunt rehearsals, talent rehearsals, transportation food, prep work like scheduling and more budgeting...
- Production: cast, crew, equipment, locations, transportation, food, props...
- Post: editing, visual effects, sound design, coloring...
- Marketing & PR: film festivals, FB sponsored posts, YT ads...
Indiegogo says I should tell you guys where the funds go if the whole goal is not reached. That's simple, whatever portion we raise will go towards the budget and we will keep fighting until we reach it.
The Impact
Everybody knows the stats when it comes to artists of color working in TV & Film are abysmal. On this production, we're going to hire artists of color who can use Keloid as a stepping stone in their careers. We're going to host the series on the Black TV & Film Collective website and the BTFC YouTube the same way we did season one, and hopefully people who like the show will find the BTFC and want to know more and want to get involved. We're stronger when we work together and this is what the BTFC is all about and its the spirit in which Keloid was created.
Last but not least, viewers who love a good story and who are tired of just seeing black and brown faces in the same tired scenarios will get to enjoy a really great show that breaks the mold.
In season one, we did all of these things, just with the little change in my pocket. For Season 2 we're turning it all the WAY UP (with your help of course)!
Risks & Challenges
What's the risk and what's the challenge? A show like this one should be made with much more than $10K. We're hoping we smash that goal and add some key stretch goals later in the campaign.
It's also pretty risky to be launching this campaign during back to school time. We know folks money is tight buying school supplies, back to school gear and from summer travel. But we felt that while we still have a few more episodes to go, still have the attention of our audience, the time is now. I know we can do it.
