Imagine if there was another indyref with only the mainstream media to report it.

Scary, isn't it?
But that's exactly what we face. Of 40 newspapers in Scotland there's still only a single daily - with a tiny circulation of under 9,000 copies - that supports independence (along with one Sunday paper bought by less than 0.4% of the population).
Without new-media outlets like Wings Over Scotland (current monthly readership 340,000), the Yes campaign simply wouldn't have a voice at all.
And in a second referendum the odds will be stacked even more highly against independence than they were in 2014.

The Opposition
In addition to almost the entire print and broadcast media, this time the No campaign will also have a lavishly-funded "grassroots" element bankrolled by some of the richest people in the UK.

Scotland In Union - a group of abusive hardcore Loyalist extremists backed by mega-rich celebrities like Dan Snow and JK Rowling, along with Lords, MPs and MSPs from all three Unionist parties - have already raised at least £400,000 to fight a second referendum.

They're likely to receive lots more funding in the future. A report in The Herald on 24 February 2017 revealed that a secretive cabal of right-wing, pro-Brexit businessmen headed by a former Scottish Conservatives vice-chairman are looking to donate large sums to Unionist groups in any second independence referendum.

And up against that, it's pretty much just us.
What needs to be done?
Wings Over Scotland has been running for over five years now. In addition to over 4,200 articles fact-checking and debunking the lies of Unionist politicians and the press, we've reached out to voters beyond the reach of political websites and distributed hundreds of thousands of print copies of our Wee Blue and Wee Black Books to every corner of Scotland.
Books change minds. In the event of a second referendum we want to put out even more WBBs - lots more - than last time because the fact is that you can't win a referendum on the internet alone. But that costs money, and we don't have any billionaires on our side. So we're going to need your help.
How much?
The amount on this page is enough to keep Wings going for another year - if we reach the target it'll cover a living wage for its editor, the considerable cost of hosting a website with 300,000+ readers a month, commissioning the occasional opinion poll, crippling cartoonist fees and the cut that Indiegogo and others take in return for operating this fundraising service. (Which comes to about 10% in total.)
But that just keeps the lights on. It's anything we manage to raise over and above that figure that we can put into the fighting fund for stuff like printing and distributing enough Wee Blue Books to turn 45% into 51%.
You know what we're up against, and our track record of delivering for your money. Will you give us the tools to do the job? It's up to you, folks.
