Danish documentary director Sebastian Cordes, who has always been a fan of Duckburg stories, set out to make a documentary about comic book artist Don Rosa. Don Rosa is one of the most distinguished, yet most underestimated storytellers in the world of Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comics. He has a love for telling stories about the ducks and enjoys creating the comics with much enthusiasm.
Don Rosa has always been a comic book fan and collector himself. All his work is dedicated to the number one duck artist, Carl Barks. His great love for duck stories has resulted in comic books that are crammed full of information and elaborate details to an extent, that it far exceeds that of many comic book artist.
He has won two Eisner Awards; one of them for his masterpiece “The life and times of Scrooge McDuck” in 1995, and the other one for best writer/artist of humor in 1997.
But in spite of his succes, he has had to struggle his entire life to do what he loves most of all, to write and draw Uncle Scrooge comics. He has had to deal with a crushed hand, failing eyesight, low payment, obnoxious Disney copyright executives, a responsibility to the family company, loneliness and a lawsuit by and against his own idol, Carl Barks.
The Documentary covers the entire life of Don Rosa, from cradle to retirement. It is intended for the fans of duck stories and Don Rosa artwork.
The film is presented in pictures and with soundtracks that flaunts poetic imagery; the classic documentary confronted. It is shot in HD format with at high level of detail.
The film is yet to be edited, but has so far been shot for an extremely low budget, aprox. 5.000 dollars.
What we need is additional funding to ensure professional editing and animation effects. Also we need people to spread the word, so that the fans out there know that a documentary about Don Rosa is soon about to exist.
