Will You Help Me Make Music in Alaska?
Hi! My name's Kaitrin and I'm a composer. (You can listen to clips of my previous work here.)
This July I’m spending 3 weeks away from my full-time job and rehearsal schedule to unplug from the outside world, reconnect with Mother Nature, and create a new musical work.
But I need your help to make that happen. A donation of even just $5 or $10 would help me engage my creative spirit, intellect, and energy in Alaska as I’m refreshed and inspired by the adventures that await in the wilderness.
What Will I Be Doing?
This July, I'll be traveling alongside fellow composers, experienced guides, naturalists, and scientists as we venture into the backcountry of Alaska's wilderness in Denali National Park. Following an intense, immersive, and inspiring adventure (in which there will definitely be mud and mosquitos, and there will definitely NOT be wifi or cell service), I'll compose original chamber music to be premiered by Corvus, a contemporary music ensemble of top-notch performers, at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. The piece will also be performed at the Welcome Center of Denali National Park.
You can learn more about the program here.
What I Hope to Accomplish
I won’t find out which instruments I’m writing for until I get there (which is scary, but fun). I definitely have some hopes and dreams for my new piece:
- Highlight the impact of humanity on the world (climate change, deforestation, fracking, species extinction crisis).
- Revisit topics that I've explored in earlier composition/works, including my one-act musical retelling of Peter Pan titled Wendy, which premiered in 2013.
- Have fun making beautiful music and collaborating with artists from around the world.
- Come back to Ohio a more inspired, empowered artist who is ready to lend her voice to important causes.
