Who are we?
My name is David. I am the founder and lead writer for "More than Meets the Eye." I have lived and worked among Muslim peoples throughout Central Asia and the Middle East for the past 25 years. I count many of them as good friends. I have almost 10 years of post-graduate work at Indiana University and The American Military University in Islamics, Linguistics, History and Terrorism Studies. I have served for almost 20 years in the US Army on both active duty and reserves. For the past 5 years I have spent much of my time working with refugees along the refugee highway from Greece to Germany. I have spent a lot of personal time in study and research as well as thousands of hours sitting with Muslims, hearing their stories, hopes and dreams.
It is our desire, that "More than Meets the Eye" will be a starting place; the beginning of a conversation around the disturbing events happening in our world today. We will attempt to present a reasonable and accurate account of what is happening in such a way that each of us will be required to ask, “What will I do? How can I be part of the solution and not part of the problem?” Our intention is not to criticize. We plan to present as accurate a picture as possible and provide analytical tools which will enable you to thrive in this incredible mosaic tapestry we call our world.
Why did we create "More than Meets the Eye"?
We are tired of all the misinformation, especially concerning extremist violence and terrorism. The mainstream media – whether left or right of the political or socio-cultural perspective – is feeding you information laced with agenda, incompetence and political lies.
At "More than Meets the Eye," we are passionate about telling you the truth. We won't tell you that we have some form of privilege on information that you might not have. We won't try to tell you that we are without pre-suppositions, but we are happy to tell you what they are. We highly doubt you will get the same from the mainstream media.
The Weekly
Weekly, we will produce an intelligence digest. It will be short, to the point and without embellishment. It will come to you in three sections: the Review, the Why and the Action. We will review some of what has happened in the world during the previous week. We will use a broad range of sources. We will address why that particular news matters to each of us and our families. Lastly, instead of living in fear and being manipulated we will demonstrate how you can do something about what you learn.
If we are able to reach our initial target goal of $20,000, we will publish "The Weekly." It will come to you in a concise and engaging format that will be easy for you to read and consider. One of our goals at "More than Meets the Eye" is to help you, the reader, not only walk away better informed, but also equipped to do something to make this world a better place.
Why a Subscription service?
We have one loyalty…to our readers. We do not receive any funding from other sources for the writing of “More than Meets the Eye”(MTMTE).
All the profits from MTMTE will go toward job creation projects for those currently in catastrophic transition as refugees, whether at home or abroad.
"Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21) We want to spend our time and energy writing something that our audience finds valuable enough, not only to read but to invest in as well.
Besides…it is little more than a good cup of coffee at Starbucks. It is a small price to pay to better grasp the things that are deeply shaping our world and future.
And.... it allows us to keep doing what we are passionate about – helping people in places where few want to go to help.
