The Myre project is a massive undertaking by the guys at Spacemarket to take an empty 1960s department store in the heart of the vibrant port city of Fremantle, Western Australia, and bring it back to life, Dr Frankenstein-style.The floors will be split into retail and manufacturing and the roof will become a 5000 sqm event space.
We at David Weir Architects have thrown up our hands to create and manage a 300-person venue as part of the larger event space, a more secluded zone where we can host live music and product launches and spoken word and stand up comedy... there's even someone who wants to do a puppet show, so that's great!
We are trying to create something unique and expansive in it's ability to show off some of the best of Perth and Fremantle. But we are doing it on a budget. We are well versed at creating homes and bars and retail spaces on the smell of an oily rag (and with outcomes that at least we think are very special), but this is big and will take some help. We aren't expecting the public of Perth to fund the whole shebang - we're sinking our own funds into it and are calling in favours and sponsorship from our industry buddies, but we thought it might be a way that the interested folk of Perth and Freo could get involved in what will hopefully be a super great space.
The money that we are seeking will go towards, literally, the nuts and bolts that will hold the place together. It will also go towards bringing in a couple of shady trees for y'all to sit under come summer time.
In return we are offering a bunch of ways that you can connect with the space, either by getting some great tunes from one of our planned resident musos, or by literally being engraved on the walls of the place. Check out all the ways we want to get you to be a part of this place.
If you can give some dollars we would be very appreciative, but if you can't we would be just as grateful if you could spread the word. Use the Twitter or the FB or any such medium you like. We NEED your involvement to open and we NEED you to come and visit us when you do.
Thanks for listening and hopefully we will see you soon,
David Weir for DWA.
