Short Summary

My name is Steven Lewis Simpson and have been a feature film director for 20 years. In the last 14 years much of the work I have produced has been in Native American communities. Most prominently my love story/thriller feature film Rez Bomb and my feature documentary A Thunder-Being Nation made over 13 years. Both shot on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. 

For the last two and a half years I have been working with the author Kent Nerburn to bring his acclaimed novel Neither Wolf Nor Dog to the big screen as a movie. In the last year we had raised a full budget for the film and were moving towards entering pre-production about now when the financing fell through at the very last minute. 

We have much in place and in part because our dream actor for the crucial role of Dan is elderly we feel it is essential we shoot the film before the weather in South Dakota starts to turn at the end of October. 

Because the story is a simple one of a road trip between three men through the stunning landscapes of Lakota Country it is actually a story we can film on a micro-budget without compromising much on production value since we hope to use the same cast and locations regardless of budget. Apart from Kent and I all the other key figures around the project right now are from Indian Country. 

TO GET FILM MADE IN INDIAN COUNTRY WE NEED TO PROVE THERE IS AN AUDIENCE TO SUPPORT IT 

To get things moving though we need to have some funds to start flowing in. This initial request is to bring us up to the start of pre-production. Because nothing at this stage can be guaranteed we're offering a broad range of incentives that can be delivered more or less straight away rather than having you wait 18 months for a DVD to arrive in the post.

Crucially we can only get the ball rolling with your support. the author has had a constant stream of fans of the book proclaiming what an amazing movie it would make. We agree but need help to get the word to all these people to help support the project. The reality is there isn't a large support for films from Indian Country and because it's not big box office Hollywood ignores those stories. That's why your help is needed either to contribute or help get the word out. 

The impact Neither Wolf Nor Dog has had as a novel has been considerable to readers in and out of Indian Country. It is used in many environments as a teaching tool from schools to penitentiaries. Crucially the narrative takes the audience into the real contemporary life of Indian Country and breaks down barriers and stereotypes.

This is our first campaign to raise funds in stages.

Our minimum target beyond this campaign is to enter production if we raise at lest $50,000 from a combination of crowd-funding, product placement/sponsorship (mostly Native American Companies) and in-kind support. We have all the equipment needed to post-produce the film
