What's this campaign about?
From the designer that brought you the Tracery Vest, Vigil Wrap, and 'Thanks, It Has Pockets!' Cowl - among many other beautiful patterns! - comes a new stranded knitting wrap pattern: Between the Dragon and His Wrap. This is a stunning design which is sure to appeal to dragon lovers everywhere. Imagine snuggling cosily inside a rectangle of knitted goodness that looks like this:

Being an independent knitting pattern designer is a tricky business: you never know whether a self-published pattern is going to be a hit, a money-loser, or somewhere in between. The purpose of this campaign is to ensure that the costs of producing a pattern (yarn, tech editing, designer's time, etc.) will be covered.
This is my first attempt at crowdsourcing the creation of a knitting pattern, and I hope you'll help make it a success!
About the designer
Kathleen Sperling has been designing under the handle of WIP Insanity for about fifteen years. Her work has appeared in MagKnits, Knitty, Jane Austen Knits, Knit Now, Petite Purls, Creative Knitting, The Unofficial Harry Potter Knits, Interweave Knits, knit.purl, Knitscene, Fabulous Knits, I Like Knitting, Knotions, and Yarniverse magazines. She's also contributed patterns to a number of books: Knitting Wizardry; 100 Knits: Interweave's Ultimate Pattern Collection (both by Interweave); and Outlander Knitting: The Official Book of 20 Knits Inspired by the Hit Series (from Penguin Random House). She has a large body of self-published knitting patterns, sets, and eBooks as well.
Her website at www.wipinsanity.com contains a blog detailing her adventures in knitting, as well as links to her patterns, tutorials, and social media channels.
What you can expect from this pattern
The exact imagery presented in this campaign may be tweaked somewhat for the final version, but the overall concept and look will be the same.
The construction of this shawl allows you to knit in the round while simultaneously creating the fringe - no need to cut loads of short lengths for the fringe or secure any steeks after the knitting is finished! You simply cut the fringe stitches up the middle and knot the strands to make the fringe look nice.
The finished wrap measures 20" wide, and can be made to two different lengths (not including the fringe): a little more than five feet, and a little less than six feet. To make it, you'll need about three 100g skeins of each of two colours of worsted weight.
Skills required are:
- knitting
- purling
- increasing
- decreasing
- stranded knitting
- chart reading
Kathleen has drawn admiration from the knitting community for the creativity, beauty, and ease-of-use of her patterns:
