Overview
Tired of Asian American men being portrayed as weak and unattractive? Then help me get this documentary of Allen Joe made. As the first Chinese American champion bodybuilder and a mentor to the legendary Bruce Lee, this Oakland native has lived a remarkable life and his story deserves to be told.

My name is Rick Quan, I am a two time Emmy Award winning journalist and documentary producer. I am trying to raise funds to produce a documentary on Oakland native Allen Joe. Now 94 years old, his story is long overdue.

Asian American men have long suffered from negative stereotypes, often being portrayed as weak and unattractive but Allen was just the opposite. As the first Chinese American champion bodybuilder, he worked out with physical fitness legend Jack LaLanne and Steve Reeves, who played Hercules in the movies. Allen was also a mentor and role model for martial arts icon Bruce Lee.

By having his story told, Allen will finally receive some of the credit he deserves for being an Asian American pioneer and for helping Bruce Lee with his career and life.
