The 27th Noisefest: This Year We'll Have To Be Even Louder!
The Norcal Noisefest is the longest running experimental music festival in North America. This Indiegogo campaign helps us to promote the festival and pay performers: our objective each year is for half our total festival revenue to be paid directly to performers. Your contribution keeps the Norcal Noisefest diverse, unique and growing. The perks include unique artwork and music, effects pedals & kits, and festival participation. After an all-virtual festival in 2020, we held a hybrid festival with 2 days of live performance and an all-video day in 2021 and 2022, using the funds from our IGG campaign to stream the entire festival online, at no charge. This year we plan to invest IGG funds to publish the Norcal Noisefest Book and provide even more funds for an increased number of in-person performers on Friday and Saturday.
Norcal Noisefest 2023 is the 27th annual Northern California Experimental Music Festival, a national gathering of noise musicians that takes place every year in Sacramento, California. This year's Noisefest is scheduled for October 6 and 7, with live performances on Friday October 6 and Saturday October 7 at Cafe Colonial/The Colony, and a third, all-virtual day on Sunday October 8 with an in-person watch party at There And Back Cafe, 1020 11th Street. We are seeking funds to promote the festival, pay performers, and subsidize the costs of publishing the Norcal Noisefest Book. All days of Norcal Noisefest are FREE thanks to us reaching our Stretch Goal.
Some may note that we're holding the Noisefest on the same weekend as Aftershock, the largest rock festival on the West Coast. While this creates challenges for hotel accommodation, recent years' experience has shown that other Sacramento events actually see more attendance during Aftershock weekend, especially music events on the louder and weirder end of the spectrum. NORCAL NOISEFEST IS THE LOUDEST AND WEIRDEST OF THEM ALL!

Your Contribution Helps Spread the Noise!
We are seeking a total of $2000 to promote the Noisefest and create an online festival experience that will help continue the festival and the community it has engendered.
We are offering a wide variety of perks--including Noisefest membership packages and merchandise, one-of-a-kind artwork, music and experiences, effects pedals and kits, and even the chance to perform at the festival.
Indiegogo campaign funds will be divided between marketing, performer payment, and book publication costs. We pride ourselves on breaking even on the Fest--all profits beyond basic festival expenses goes to the bands. While performers do not have travel expenses this year, due to the remote festival, we want to support experimental music creators by providing at least some payment to all the performers who request it. The in-person elements of the festival will charge a cover, but the additional funding from this campaign will allow us to livestream the entire festival at no charge; we hope that people will contribute in order to support the increased overhead costs of livestreaming and provide payment to performers!
New Perks Highlight the History of the Noisefest
To celebrate the 27th Norcal Noisefest, we're producing a limited edition, full color, 100 page book that covers the history of the Norcal Noisefest, from its beginnings in the mid-1990s through its revival in 2000 up to this year. It's available as one of our perks and we think it's going to be very popular! The book will include photos and stories from every festival, and some behind-the-scenes revelations from its organizers about how the festival came about, and how it has changed over the past quarter century. This book was originally planned for release in 2021 before it was written--writing is now complete and we're sending it to the printer for distribution and perk availability! IGG funds will be used to pay graphic design and setup costs, and lower the price of the book for subsequent purchasers.
Keep a Sacramento Noise Tradition Alive!
The funding campaign for Norcal Noisefest 2022 was a huge success thanks to our Indiegogo supporters--we raised $3568 with a goal of $1500. After adding the revenue generated at the Noisefest, we spent $1032 on promotion, and paid performers $1340, with remaining funds used to pay the cost of facility rental, webcast equipment, creating shirts, CDs, and other festival merchandise; due to the remote nature of the festival, we also spent more than $700 shipping perks and membership materials to supporters and participants.
