About the Story
Forced into an unexpected encounter with a volatile ghost, a young Thai shaman must utilize the skills from her homeland in order to escape.
The film centers around 20-year-old Nat, an international college student from Thailand with a mystical background in shamanism. Having met a roadblock in getting a part-time job legally during her study in the United States, Nat accepts an urgent cleaning job her mom found online. Unbeknownst to her, an abandoned spirit haunts the house, waiting for the day it can escape its prison.
Background
My name is Namo Chalermpao and I am the writer-director of “Of Loga,” a short film created under Emerson's Bachelor of Fine Arts program, which will be filming in May. The inspiration for this story came from my own cultural displacement within the U.S. as well as the many ghost stories and Buddhist teachings that I grew up with in Thailand. Although I started identifying as agnostic a couple years back, Buddhism and Thai ghost stories created in me a sense of belonging and “home” whenever I felt out of place in the U.S. From here, I wrote the metaphor to my experience and philosophy through the interaction between a ghost and a living woman.
With your support, we will be able to bring this story to the screen. We hope you will join us in making our passion project a reality.
Use of Funds
Making a short film is expensive. Luckily we have resources through our school to get studio space, equipment, and most importantly a community of filmmakers to work on our crew.
So where will the money we are raising be spent? Your support will allow us to:
Cover our actors' travel to Boston
Rent our house location
Buy materials for production design, props, and costumes
Buy special effects makeup for the ghost
Feed our crew during production
Cover crew and gear transportation
Keep everyone safe with Covid tests, masks, and other supplies
Emerson is reimbursing $1000, but the rest of our budget will need to be raised through self and crowdfunding.
