Barry Griffith doesn’t know it yet, but tonight is the night fate has chosen to be the night of his death… his murder. At a gas station in the middle of nowhere, late at night, his wife Jenny appears… no car… no coat and looking older than when he saw her last. That’s because this is not the woman he received a good-bye kiss from this morning. This woman has been a widow for over four years and has made an impossible journey back in time to try to stop her husband’s murder. Will they be able to escape the killers or does fate only have one plan… one possible outcome… ONE WAY?
SUMMARY
Jeff Lane’s second novel ONE WAY was written in 2010 and released simultaneously as a serialized podcast audiobook and eBook in the fall of 2011. He had previously released the first novel of his Champion Saga, This Paper World in 2009 to worldwide acclaim and most recently the sequel This Burning World in 2014.
ONE WAY received universally high praise from all over the globe upon its release and fans have enjoyed its unique take on time travel, strong characters and dual timeline narrative structure. In 2013 Jeff Lane opened talks of turning ONE WAY into a film. Jeff was tasked with adapting the novel into a screenplay and brought on as a producer.
While working on the pre-production of ONE WAY, he continues to write novels and is currently working on A Christmas Carol inspired story called The Three Scrooges.

In High School and college I had one goal; get into the movies! Whether it was in front of the camera to become the next Kiefer Sutherland or Emilio Estevez (hey - don’t laugh - this was the late 80’s / early 90’s!), or behind the camera as the next Spielberg, I knew I wanted to tell stories that would eventually end up on the big screen. As the realities of living in New England (Maine), about as far away from the bright lights of Hollywood as you can get, and the fiscal responsibilities that drove me into a corporate job took root, my dreams of becoming a cinematic storyteller slipped farther and farther away. With the burning desire to create still roiling away in my guts I eventually turned to a more realistic canvas for my art; a blank Word document. I needed to tell stories. Even if I didn’t have a film crew, budget, actors or sets, I could still build worlds and characters and take them on journeys… through my writing.
To date, I have written three novels; This Paper World, This Burning World and ONE WAY. Thanks to wonderful technologies like the Internet, Podcasting and eBooks, these books (along with a novella and some short stories) have been enjoyed (and praised) by tens of thousands of readers and listeners the world over. Translating my dreams into words and audio has been a great challenge, immensely satisfying and rewarding.
Now, with your help, we would like to take the next step by bringing ONE WAY to life on screen.
Partnering with visionary director / producer Aaron Thomas has been like no other creative collaboration I have ever experienced. Handing my words and characters over to this skilled craftsman was one of the easiest decisions I have ever made in my life. Watching him assemble an amazing cast and crew which contains extraordinarily talented actors, not one but two genius Directors of Photography, and world-renowned composer Fabrizio Paterlini has been nothing short of jaw dropping. The amount of commitment and passion from each and every member of the team is unbelievable and humbling at the same time.
You can become part of that team as well. Please help bring our “time travel thriller with heart” ONE WAY to life by contributing to this campaign.
Why You Should Support This Project?
1) You'll be part of a really creative, project, you'll let a fusional crew and cast realise his most successful novel on screen. 2) Be a producer for the first time. You want to be proud of something? Help us, and you won't be disappointed! 3) Because you'll be part of an international project 4) Because we already love you and we want you to love us! Your help goes through the funding but not even that. A share, a tweet, a word of encouragement, every little contribution is a huge help for us.
Embarking on directing ONE WAY has been an inspiring and challenging journey for me… and one I hope you will share with me. ONE WAY is my second feature length film I have directed.
Always looking to innovate, the team and I have many plans in store to take the fascinating story of ONE WAY (a brilliant novel and screenplay from internationally acclaimed author Jeff Lane) and transform it visually and sonically into a pulse-pounding, cerebral thriller that blends love, adventure, horror and time travel into a spell-binding tale and powerful cinematic experience. Some of the elements we are crafting for the film include working with two cameras, each will be sett up and filming the scenes as they are the primary camera. This two camera approach will not only allow us to maximise our budget and shooting schedule but will also enable us to capture organic action real time without having to break the scene for different coverage, angles and multiple takes. Additional technology, techniques and equipment (including drones) ensure we will be taking the viewer of a fantastic and artistic rollercoaster of a visual experience like they have never seen before.
In addition to the talented cast and crew we have already assembled, we have also partnered with world renowned composer Fabrizio Paterlini to compose and conduct a score that is as breathtaking as it is haunting. Fan response to Fabrizio’s theme song One Way, both on tour and from comments on Soundcloud has been unanimously positive. The rest of his soundtrack is sure to move the audience and support the actors and story beautifully.
For fans of the novel that worry, “but will the film be as good?”, have no fear. Jeff Lane, who wrote the sensation novel, also adapted the screenplay is also producing to ensure the novel’s story and heart stays true. Where changes have to be made (and they always do when adapting from the page to the screen), Jeff has been there every step of the way adding his artistic input and intimate knowledge of the characters and their world.
ONE WAY will be a fantastic, artful and fun thrill ride than I know fans around the globe will enjoy. Let me thank you in advance for becoming part of this amazing journey and supporting the talent and commitment of our world class cast and crew.

"I became aware of Jeff Lanes work mid 2010, he had written an amazing novel entitled This Paper World which I found amazing. As an avid reader I felt drawn to the novel and felt compelled to congratulate the author on his success. After a short period I offered to shoot a trailer for This Paper World, we partnered with award winning film director Karen Palmer whom is CEO of If media and programmer Richard Baffoe. After having months of conversations with the team developed 'This Paper World' app which is the worlds first playable trailer, now available to download via iTunes. During this time of creativity I had been reading Jeff Lanes second novel 'One Way' which was a completely different novel from This Paper World and at this point I knew I had met whom I believe to be one of modern times great writers. The ability he has to create worlds, characters, change time like changing lanes and tap into my emotions changed my life as a reader.
Now we have been working together for almost five years, on 'One Way' the movie for the last two years, creating relationships with crew, cast and brands (Drift Camera, Kirk and Kirk Glasses).
The journey we have endured as creatives and friends has been great as we are two ends of the spectrum, Jeff In Maine USA and me in London United Kingdom; 3197.4 Miles To Be Exact. After learning we are the same age and born hours apart we have partnered to create Hours Apart films: Three Novels, Three Visual Adaptions and One Prime Directive, To Adapt Great Novels To Great Movies. "
It is fitting that composer and pianist Fabrizio Paterlini was born and lives in the ancient northern Italian city of Mantua. Listeners and critics alike are torn as to how best label Paterlini’s beautiful sound. Neo- classical, Ambient, Minimalist and New Age have all been considered, but it is more pertinent to note some of the adjectives regularly used in appreciation of his sonic palette. Ethereal, soulful, lush, emotive, dreamy, delicate and, tellingly, passionate, all appear with unerring frequency. The composer himself describes his work as “like a glass of red wine on a summer evening,” in awareness of the calming effect of his reflective melodies on the listener.
NIKITA Vyas (Assistant Director)

I am currently studying at Queen Mary, University of London with the hopes of creating great cinema. I have been associated with Fruit District Group for about two years and have seen the company grow and develop as well as witnessing my own personal growth, learning more and more about this vibrant film industry. In essence, my journey in the film industry has just begun.
What We Need & What You Get
Hours Apart Films is seeking £75,000 for the production of the feature film ONE WAY. ONE WAY is an adaption of the popular independent novel of the same name by American author Jeff Lane. The funds will be used primarily to pay cast and crew for their time and participation. Additionally, smaller portions of the budget will be used for equipment, wardrobe, supplies, post production and marketing expenses.
Paying the cast and crew is important to Hours Apart Films. The people involved in the making of this film are its heart and soul. Though this is an independent film, attracting the right talent and compensating them for their hard work, dedication and artistry is important to us. The cast and crew have been working since April 2015 with no pay to attend rehearsals, technical meetings and other planning sessions. We would love to be able to reward their dedication and hard work.
Each and every one of the cast and crew members are professionals in their respective field. These are working actors, productions assistants, directors of photography and composers. They are experienced and practiced in their craft and in the industry. This means that ONE WAY is NOT an amateur production – it will be an artfully crafted and extremely well produced feature. This will be a movie that you can proudly tell your friends and family about and know that you had a part in making it come to fruition.
There will be some additional expenses for wardrobe, supplies, marketing and festival entry, but these expenses have been minimised as much as possible. We do this by partnering with companies in product placement deals such as Action Cam to supply Drift Stealth Camera, and Kirk and Kirk to supply Glasses. We have also partnered with not one but TWO Directors of Photography (more on this approach in a bit) who each bring in their own cache of professional equipment including steady cam rigs, dolly tracks, drones, lighting equipment, 4k Ultra HD cameras and lenses. These expenses can significantly add to a film budget. In the case of the ONE WAY production, these expenses are minimal.
To thank you for participating in the production of this film we have created a great list of funding rewards ranging from copies of the novel (and Jeff Lane’s other works) to soundtracks (from award winning composer Fabrizio Paterlini) to one-of-a-kind production experiences which bring you right on set and make you part of the production. No matter what level of funding you can participate at there is sure to be a valuable reward that will appeal to you.
Though we would like to reach our full funding goal, we are extremely dedicated to making this film and bringing it to the world no matter what. If we cannot make our full funding goal we will still use each and every pound / dollar to bring ONE WAY to the screen. Specific modifications to the budget, compensation or shooting schedule will be fully evaluated if we fall short of the goal, but rest assured that you WILL see ONE WAY come to life on screen.
The Impact
ONE WAY is more than “another independent film”. Yes, it is a great story that blends action, adventure, sci-fi, horror, love and thrills into one pulse-pounding, tear-jerking adventure. But it is more than that. ONE WAY will be a spectacular collaboration between world renowned director, composer, directors of photography, writers and actors. Each member of the team is an artist ready to bring the best of their craft to produce a truly great film. Every so often the world of cinema takes a leap forward and shows us a film that breaks all the conventional rules (Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, Toy Story) and sets a new standard. Our hope is that ONE WAY is one of those films.
Additionally, this project will be the gateway for additional collaborations and future “Hours Apart” films. Our hope is to create a stable of talented actors, writers, producers, etc. and continue adapting novels to films and television for years to come. Your participation in the funding of ONE WAY is much more than helping us launch a single film… it could help us launch a brand.
Risks & Challenges
So there are a few challenging aspects to making a film of this scope and size. In the case of ONE WAY the story is actually two distinct narratives that come together. This requires multiple locations, a fairly large cast and several complex sequences to shoot (car chase, fight scenes, etc.). The budget we are seeking enables us to shoot everything we need on a 17 day schedule. Some films have been shot in less, but many more have much longer shooting schedules.
To overcome this hurdle, we will be employing a couple innovative techniques. For one, as previously mentioned, we will have two Directors of Photography (DOP) on this shoot. Each will be setting up and shooting as though they are the primary DOP. This will enable us to not only get a wonderful blend of “collaboratively competitive” styles and points of view, but also allow us to get much more coverage of each take. Things like fight scenes, car chases, and dialogue can be shot organically with less cuts and multiple takes.
Additionally, Director Aaron Thomas will be employing an efficient by pre-planning and pre-visualizing each shot as well as being the lead editor, he can shoot much more efficiently, rather than “over shooting” for shots and coverage he does not need.
Months of cast rehearsals will also aid in expediency when shooting scenes on set. The familiarly of each actor with their role, the story and their fellow actor’s performance will mean less re-takes and risks to the shooting schedule. This is not to say that there won’t be additional or unanticipated challenges on set, but the preparedness and innovation of the cast and crew will enable them to produce the footage they need in the schedule allotted.
Other Ways You Can Help
Of course, your financial contribution is the critical element that will bring ONE WAY to life, but it is not the only ingredient in the recipe that leads us to success. Whether or not you can donate (and we hope you can), we also need your voice and support. Please use your social media presence, Indiegogo’s share tools, or good old fashioned word of mouth with your friends, family and co-workers to spread the word about ONE WAY and this campaign as far and as wide as you can.
Whether you are a fan of the ONE WAY novel or independent film in general, we need your help to bring the amazing story of ONE WAY to life.
Thank you in advance for anything and everything you can do to help
