WHO ARE THE ARTISTS?
Filmmaker: Caroline Mariko Stucky is an award winning independent filmmaker with a fierce passion for American culture. For Caroline, film, the world of the image, is the ultimate language that trumps the whirling kaleidoscope of spoken languages of her childhood. Films she directed have been selected at Lucerne International Film Festival, Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival, Aakruti International Film Festival, Williamsburg Film Festival, The New Filmmaker Film Festival, Cinema Touching Disability Film Festival, Entr'2 Marches Film Festival, and the Sirius Film Festival, and as a director of photography her films have been shown at more than thirty film festivals. Music has become an important part of her life, after moving to NYC in 2012. Caroline has worked with artists such as Ron Carter, Matthew Garrison, Snarky Puppy, Colette Michaan, Hiromi Sada, Simon Yu and many more.
Soprano: Ariadne Greif made her debut singing Lutoslawski's Chantefleurs et Chantefables with the American Symphony Orchestra, and appeared in concert at Zankel Hall, Le Poisson Rouge, Merkin Hall, the Ojai Festival, Yellow Barn, and the Aldeburgh Festival. Leading roles include L'enfant et les sortileges, Rusalka, Les Mamelles de Tirésias, La Chûte de la Maison Usher, and most recently, Atthis, by Georg Friedrich Haas, which the NYTimes called “...a solo high-wire act for Ms. Greif...," “...raw, no-holds-barred performance," and " ...one of the most searingly painful and revealing operatic performances in recent times." She performs regularly with several ensembles, and has premiered over thirty large-scale pieces.
Composers: Elliot Cole, Caroline Park, Shawn Jaeger, Erol Gurol, Albert Behar, Ryan Chase, Aleksandra Vrebalov, Paola Prestini, Hadas Pe’ery, Gabrielle Herbst, Ricardo Romaneiro & John King.

WHAT IS THE PROJECT ABOUT?
I am making a music documentary about the creation of a theater piece called DREAMS & NIGHTMARES, curated by the large-dreaming soprano Ariadne Greif.
DREAMS & NIGHTMARES is a fantastical staged
vocal work the length of a long nap--a theater piece, an opera, made up of
outrageous dream episodes, each composed and curated by a different composer.
The documentary follows the
genesis of the piece, with an intimate view of creation, collaboration, and rehearsal, conversation, arguments, and interviews with the various
composers, and footage from three performances.

WHY THIS PROJECT?
With Only a Dream, a music documentary, I would like to show what it is like to create new art in the 21st century, expose the bubbling energy that I have seen surrounding new music in New York, and explore in image the inexplicable journey of ideas into reality.
TAKE PART IN THIS ADVENTURE!

For those who know about filmmaking, you will see that this is a very low-budget for the quality we are aiming. If we manage to exceed our $10'000 goal, we might be able to rent 4K cameras to film the next performances of DREAMS & NIGHTMARES.
No gift goes un-thanked; in our perk section you'll see a panoply of things we think will interest you (including posters, tickets, exclusive clips, DVD of the film, invitations to Premieres, and invitations to VIP parties).

This is a long-term project. The goal is to wrap the production after a
performance in January 2016. The film's American and Swiss premieres will take place around February 2016, so the last perks will be delivered around that time.
By donating, you will help this project come to life and a dream come true! And by donating, you support not just this project, but also create visibility for all the independent artists featured in the film.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND CONTRIBUTION!
