The Palestine Youth Orchestra (PYO) and 2015 tour in France
The
Palestine Youth Orchestra (PYO) was created in 2004 by the Edward Said National
Conservatory of Music (ESNCM) with the vision of bringing together 80 young
Palestinian musicians aged 13 to 26, from around the world in a high-quality
orchestral ensemble. The PYO aims to foster and strengthen the rich cultural and artistic diversity of the Palestinian people, whether living in Palestine or in the Diaspora, and to promote the recognition and to enhance the awareness of that diversity both at national and international level. Over the past 10 years, the PYO performed in Palestine, Germany, Jordan, Syria, Bahrain, Lebanon, Greece and Italy.
The exchange programs and partnerships which the ESNCM has established with institutions in other countries, allow a number of young foreign musicians to join the tours of the Orchestra. Sharing their respective cultural richness often leads to long-lasting friendships amongst members of the orchestra. Such was the case in the 2012 PYO tour of Italy which saw the participation of 20 musicians from the conservatoires of Rome and Genoa.
The 2015 tour in France will take place between the 16th - 30th of August and will see a close cooperation with conservatoires in Aix-en-Provence, Lyon, Aubervilliers - La Courneuve and Toulouse. During a one-week residency at the Grand Théâtre de Provence, the PYO will be in Aix-en-Provence alongside the Orchestre Français des Jeunes (OFJ – French Youth Orchestra).
The campaign: Where does your donation go?
The total costs of the PYO 2014 tour in France will be over $250,000 to cover travel and accommodation expenses of 90 youth members and 20 teachers and conductors along with promotion and advertisement costs. ESNCM already counted the sponsorship and cooperation of local and international institutions, as well as private and individual donations, such as A. M. Qattan Foundation, SIDA, and Bank of Palestine.
This campaign comes from the urgent need to support the travel costs of 8 Palestinian musicians residing in Palestine and Egypt, who are eager to partake in this exciting journey. Your donation will be distributed as below:

What if we raise more or less money?
- If we recieve more than the $5000 pledged, we will use the funds to support additional members costs of the PYO 2015 tour in France. If double the amount pledged is raised, the funds will also support additional ESNCM activities, such as summer camps, other orchestras, and festivals.
- If we don't reach the overall pledged amount, the funds will still contribute to the costs of the members of PYO and the 2015 tour in France.
