The PANDOO Vision

PANDOO levels the playing field for institutions and individuals who may not be able to afford the latest, most expensive computers, providing true computing equality for anyone with access to any Internet-connected device. Developers will be able to use PANDOO to build apps that can be deployed on the cloud to any user, regardless of the device. PANDOO also plays a large role in the Internet of Things (IoT)-era as a seamless and abstract unified interface for all of the "things" that are connected on the Internet.

Development Status

The PANDOO team has spent years on the underlying technology that makes PANDOO possible, and have created an early DEMO (Alpha version) where more than 700 registered users are already getting a sense of what’s possible with PANDOO. The demo is only the beginning, and we have many plans for future development and improvement.

Who is behind PANDOO?

The idea for PANDOO goes back to 1999, when co-founder Michael Patellis conceived of a way to connect medical patients and providers online, while digitizing and centralizing medical records. At that time, the notion of “the cloud” was in its infancy, and Michael’s idea took a back seat on his list of priorities, but was never forgotten!

Michael spent the next 10 years on other projects, but continued to believe the world needed a better way to store, access, and use information and services online. In late 2012, he carefully adjusted his cloud platform project with a new vision: to give people the ability to do everything they do on their computers in one place, on the cloud.

In March of 2013, Michael met George Delaportas, a talented enterprise IT architect, entrepreneur, and self-described “geek,” who immediately saw the potential to revolutionize people’s lives with the first-ever personal computer, on the cloud. So Pandoo TEK, the company behind PANDOO, was born!

Pandoo TEK incorporated in Vancouver, Canada, in June 2013. In addition to Michael and George, the company currently consists of an international team of five developers and two designers. Our backgrounds and talents are diverse, but we all have one thing in common: "A belief that PANDOO will change the world by building a powerful cloud-based O/S that makes computing more affordable, accessible, and easy to use—for everyone".

Michael was born in Greece and has lived in Canada since 1973. He has been a “serial entrepreneur” since 1985. Q: How is PANDOO different from other personalized web platforms?

A: PANDOO is the world’s first personal computer on the cloud. It functions as a virtual computer that runs its own web-based O/S where everything is on the cloud. Unlike other web dashboards, which are just shortcuts that lead to services and apps on other web pages or platforms, PANDOO provides a real web desktop where apps are being developed and run in one screen. PANDOO is also the only system that offers true personalization and multitasking.

Q: What is the difference between PANDOO and Google Chrome OS?

A: Chrome OS is a downloadable Linux kernel-based operating system designed to work primarily with web applications. The user interface is entirely based on the Google Chrome web browser and it's like a dashboard. All the apps are links or shortcuts to other pages. Finally, it's performance is highly dependent on the computer you have. PANDOO, on the other hand, is a non-downloadable web-based Ecosystem and Meta-O/S where apps, games and services are being coded, deployed and run. PANDOO provides a universal desktop, not a dashboard, that resembles the classic Windows/Mac/Linux desktops. Finally, PANDOO disengages the device resources and uses the merits of the cloud and the web.

Q: Can I use the applications installed on my computer (such as MS Office) with PANDOO?

A: Currently, PANDOO supports only web-based apps. However, we are working hard with a large open source community in order to provide a unified mechanism that enables all native and downloadable apps, games, and services, on Windows, Mac and Linux, to operate seamlessly on PANDOO. For now, PANDOO enables integration with numerous cloud applications and office suites that are 100% compatible with MS Office—such as Zoho, Google Docs, and more.

Q: With PANDOO, can I continue to use all the cloud-based applications I already use, and access the data I already have stored on the cloud?

A: Absolutely! PANDOO makes the process of using your favorite apps and cloud storage services many times easier and more user-friendly by integrating them all in one browser window, using one secure login.

Q: Does PANDOO work on a smartphone or tablet?

A: PANDOO operates regardless of the device since it lives on the cloud. Currently, PANDOO has limited functionality on smaller screens, but we are working hard to offer an amazing experience to mobile users.

Q: Can PANDOO be used with any web browser?

A: PANDOO can run on all major web browsers. It is 100% compatible with any device and its minimum requirements are less than that of a 10-year-old computer.

Q: Can I access any of my critical data on PANDOO even if I don't have the Internet?

A: You can access recent data without the Internet using PANDOO's temporary local cache. However, PANDOO offers a better experience if you have Internet access.

Q: Why are some of the perks not available immediately at campaign launch?

A: Because we need your support to make PANDOO a reality, it is still in the early alpha stage / demo phase. Perks that involve app development and early access to the PANDOO API and Integrated Development Environment won't be available until PANDOO is fully launched.

A: PANDOO supports all server-side programming languages and JavaScript for client-side (browser) development. The concept behind PANDOO is that the diversity of the cloud technologies and programming languages should continue to extend and evolve while PANDOO silently and transparently unifies them into a seamless interface.

Q: What are the possibilities for customizing my PANDOO interface and apps?

A: PANDOO is all about you. You can personalize your PANDOO desktop by customizing everything from sounds and music, to colors, skins, and FX. PANDOO's functionality is also personalized to the user, with a dynamic environment that adjusts buttons, images, window sizes, etc. to fit your activities and preferences.

Q: Can I share and work collaboratively on documents and files using PANDOO?

A: PANDOO is THE platform for managing, collaborating and sharing your work efficiently and securely. With PANDOO Cloud, which provides UNLIMITED space, and “PANDOO talk”, the unique Internet communicator of PANDOO, you can easily do your work any time of day regardless of your location or the device you use.

Q: How does PANDOO use the login and other data I provide? Is my information private and secure?

A: Unlike other web desktops, PANDOO enables users to choose the kind of information they share with PANDOO and/or others. PANDOO also has a “Swipe Everything” mechanism so that users can delete every piece of information. Finally, PANDOO stores information only temporarily. In contrast to all other systems that store every single piece of information on you, PANDOO uses only information on-demand and then discards any data when you finish your tasks. We are working hard to develop smart technologies so that you enjoy secure cloud computing. Your personal data has never been more secure!

Q: Is PANDOO free?

A: PANDOO is FREE—for everyone. However, PANDOO makes money from personal and highly targeted advertising. We also receive commissions from apps sold on the PANDOO Marketplace and fees from developers who want to register and develop apps on the PANDOO Platform.
