At its core, this film is about the convoluting of one's sense of morality when subject to extreme circumstances. Can taking a life ever be justified? Can anyone deserve to die? Lee, our main character, on the verge of adulthood, is forced to confront these questions in the wake of the decision to murder his violently abusive uncle. shortly after the killing, Lee meets Ben, a 13-year-old boy with problems of his own. Together, they navigate the complexities of these questions.
Directors statement
I began developing this story about two years ago in a screenwriting class. I became intrigued by the idea of exploring complex and nuanced subjects through the eyes of young people on the verge of adulthood. Something about that time in everyone's life offers such a compelling way of viewing the world. You are not quite grown up, but you feel like you are. The adults around you write you off as naive and immature, but deep down you understand more. It is a time when you start to confront the fact that you are becoming the person you will end up as, and it is terrifying. As a storyteller, thinking about the world and its complexities through these eyes offers the potential for amazing narratives. My hope for this film is to use that lens to tell a compelling story.
How you can help!
In order to tell a visually and thematically compelling story, we're going to need some help. We’ve estimated to total cost of the film to be about 3500 dollars. The money will be used to cover food and transportation for our cast and crew, location fees, Props and other Art direction related expenses, and some outside equipment rentals. Any amount you can pledge, no matter how small, gets us closer to our goal.
