Welcome!
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page! We're Porpentine, a fresh-faced young classical theater company based in Brooklyn.
We're currently in rehearsals for our inaugural production of Shakespeare's
The Tempest, and we need your help to reach our IndieGoGo fundraising goal of
$5000. Your donations are our lifeblood:
- rehearsal studio time
- lights
- costumes
- travel stipends for the actors, designers and crew
- our awesome rooftop in Greenpoint
Please take 2 minutes and become a part of our production by making a tax-deductible contribution. As a thank-you for donations above $30, you'll receive tickets for the performance(s) of your choosing. So please donate generously, and bring a few friends to the roof with you.
If you donate and select a perk involving tickets, our box office will get in touch via email to schedule your date(s).Tickets are also available for purchase ($10) at:

About us
"... And each particular hair to stand on end
Like quills upon the fretful porpentine...."
Hamlet, Act I, Scene 5
We're a classical theater company firmly rooted in the here-and-now. We'll try not to use the phrase "timeless themes" (but no promises).
Porpentine was founded in 2011 by director Peter James Cook to develop intimate, inventive, site-specific productions of classical plays. We aim to tailor each production to a different hidden niche of New York's urban landscape, resonant with both life in the city and the lush, dream-like theatricality of the plays.
For example, for our inaugural production of
The Tempest, we searched high and low (mostly high) for an urban rooftop that evoked Prospero's island - strange and familiar, both sanctuary and exile from a world just out of reach.
We're building an audience as well as an ensemble, and we're looking forward to sharing our first (we hope of many) delightful evenings with you.
Future productions under consideration include: Macbeth, Coriolanus, Julius Caesar and Troilus & Cressida (among other light comedies).
