You want to spend as much time with your dog as possible...
...on road trips, hikes, errands, or even just quick trips to the dog park, the best times are always spent together. Unfortunately, there are times when our dogs just can't be with us, times where "No Dogs Allowed" signs force us to choose between not stopping and leaving them alone in a vehicle. When you're not with your dog, you worry about how they're doing and want to be able to check on them.
With the PuppComm you can stop worrying and instead have the peace of mind to always know your dog is safe in every environment

The PuppComm is made up of three different components that work together seamlessly for your peace of mind
![]()
The core piece of the PuppComm system is the PuppComm device, which is a small sensor unit that is easy to install near your dog but out of reach. Because the PuppComm isn't a wearable device, you can use it to monitor an unlimited number of dogs that happen to be near the PuppComm (and set up custom alerts and notifications for each dog). The PuppComm comes with just the right amount of features to give you everything you need to know about your dog without frivolous extras that drive up the price.
![]()
By combining the PuppComm with the app, it becomes a powerful tool for you to be able to check on your dog any time you need to and always know your dog is safe in any environment.
![]()
The PuppComm and the app are designed to work together seamlessly. Getting set up the first time only takes a few minutes, and from there connecting to the PuppComm only takes a few seconds.

The PuppComm is more than just a smart thermometer
Our team of software developers and engineers is constantly developing new features and tools that you can use to keep your dog safe. Besides just monitoring your dog's environment, our app will make recommendations about conditions that are safe for your dog. We are using the power of big data analytics to learn how dogs react to environmental changes so that the PuppComm you receive will constantly be getting smarter about how to keep your dog safe.
![]()
When people think of their dog being in trouble because of the environment around them, they mostly think of dogs overheating, but cold temperatures can be just as dangerous for your dog as warm ones. So we recommend using the PuppComm year-round to keep your dog safe.
![]()
Every dog is different
Chihuahuas and Saint Bernards are adapted to very different temperature environments. The same is true for every other breed of dogs, and even dogs of the same breed can feel temperature differently based on many other factors that we need to take into account. Our app understands that no two dogs are the same and works to understand how the differences between dogs affect the way they feel environmental changes.
![]()
We use all of these factors and many more to determine the best environmental conditions that are safe for your dog and the more you use the PuppComm the smarter it will get. We're working with vets to make sure that we're using the latest science to keep your dog safe. Because when it comes to your dog safety, a guess just doesn't cut it.
Use the PuppComm year round to monitor your dog's safety in every environment
The PuppComm is great for all of the times and places when you might want to know that your dog is safe. Here are just some of the places where our beta testers have told us they want to use the PuppComm.

PuppTech's app makes it easy to check on your dog, but you can't just be staring at your phone the whole time waiting for something to happen. That's why the app has a powerful built-in and fully customizable alerts and notifications system that will let you know about any changes that might affect your dog long before they become problems.

Our passersby interface, the first of its kind in the world
Some people will smash windows every time they see a dog in a car, even if the dogs doesn't necessarily need it. Our unique passersby interface helps anyone who is concerned about seeing a dog in car be able to see how the dog in the car is doing without having to smash the windows. Best of all, it works through texting or a mobile website, so that it doesn't even require downloading a special app. Finally, because we respect your privacy, you'll be able to choose how much information about you and your dog you want to share and whether or not passersby have the option to communicate with you directly through the interface.
Built to go wherever your dog goes
The PuppComm's slim size and versatile design allow it to easily fit in wherever is most convenient for you and your dog. The strong bungee and hook attachment system is useful for strapping the PuppComm to crates, posts, seatbelts, or anywhere else, so that it's near your dog but not in the way. And if you do decide to use the PuppComm in a vehicle, it's conveniently sized and designed to fit perfectly into most vehicle cup holders, so that you don't have to worry about losing it in the vehicle.

Built by dog people for dog people
We started PuppTech over three years ago, when our founder decided that there had to be a better way to check on his dog when they went hiking together in the mountains of Colorado. We've come a long way in the last three years, but we've never wavered from our original goal of developing technology to help keep dogs safe. We're inspired by our dogs to build technology for yours, and if it isn't good enough for our dogs, then it definitely isn't good enough for yours.![]()

Design Principles
During the design process for the PuppComm we've had to make hundreds of decisions about its features to make sure that it works for you and your dog. We adhere to three guiding principles for how we want our product to work, look and feel to make sure it's works the way you need it to.

18 months ago we started on a journey to make the world a safer place for all dogs
We've come a long way since the creation of PuppTech, and there have been some real highlights. But despite everything we've already accomplished, we know we're just getting started, and with your help, we can't wait to see what comes next.![]()
We have a plan to get your PuppComm in your hands
Our engineers have been working with manufacturing and product development specialists to make sure we have a firm plan to get the units to our backers. We've already started on the next phase of our product development, and we have engineers and experts ready to start making the PuppComms as soon as we get your support.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY
Currently we've built and shipped a first batch of prototypes to our beta testers, who are testing them and giving us feedback on our product to help us improve it. Our software developers are hard at work on our apps and our back-end technology. We currently have a functional app for iOS and are working on getting the Android version spun up, so that we can ship some more prototypes to our test customers who have Android devices. Our electrical engineering team is taking the lessons that we learned from our first round of prototypes and working on the design and schematics for our next batch of units, which will be the precursors to the ones that our crowdfunding backers receive. We are leveraging our partnership with Arrow through the certification program to figure out our supply chain. We have hired a manufacturing consulting firm that is lining up production facilities to be able to start producing the PuppComms as soon as the engineers have finished designing the units that our backers will receive.
USE OF FUNDS
We're asking for your help to be able to take our PuppComm prototypes and turn them into a reliable, thoroughly tested, finished product that can help you and your dog. While we have a great team of engineers already working on the hardware and software for the PuppComm, we want to be able to hire more engineers to expedite the process and make sure that it meets the standards of quality that you expect for your dog. Manufacturing is expensive, and so we need help to pay for molds and tooling. Manufacturers need to be able to work in bulk, and so with your help we can have enough units to be able to place a first order with our manufacturing partners that meets their minimum quota. Finally, we also want to make sure that the PuppComms you receive have been thoroughly and rigorously tested, so that you know you can trust it on Day 1. So we need money to pay for tests, testing equipment, certifications and other quality control type expenses.
RISKS AND CHALLENGES
While we've put every attempt into preparing the PuppComm to be able to deliver it to our crowdfunding backers, any manufacturing project is always going to have some risks associated with it. Timelines can get extended, deadlines can be missed, and orders can be botched, all of which can lead to delays in production. We have, however, taken significant steps to mitigate these risks by having already built and shipped a first batch of units, going through the Arrow certification process, and hiring experts who have brought technology products into the market before and know how to work with manufacturers to get results.

FAQs
Click on any link to see our CEO answer some of our most common questions in these videos.
What inspired you to start PuppTech?
Won't PuppComm owners have to worry about people smashing their owners to try to rescue their dogs?
Isn't it illegal to leave a dog in a car?
Isn't it always dangerous to leave a dog in a car?
What does it mean that your product is Arrow certified?
Arrow Electronics is a large (Fortune 500) supplier of electronic components. Arrow assists “Internet of Things” start-up companies by evaluating their products. They examine the design and the “bill of materials” (the list of components to build the product) to make sure that the product is not “vapor ware” and can in fact be manufactured cost-effectively. Arrow has reviewed the PuppComm and certified that PuppTech will be able to manufacture and deliver PuppComms to purchasers in its crowdfunding campaign.
Why do you use the heat index to know how the dog is feeling?
PuppTech, based upon information provided by veterinarians, believes that the heat index (which combines temperature and humidity) provides the best indication of how the heat or cold is affecting your dog – what the dog is actually feeling, and what dog owners want to
know.
Do you charge a monthly fee for the PuppComm?
We do and it will be about $5-$6 per month. The PuppComm uses a cellular network that charges a monthly fee, and PuppTech maintains a data base in the “cloud” to monitor conditions of all PuppComm users and transmit this data to passersby. The monthly fee covers PuppTech’s costs in providing these services.
How long does it take to charge the battery?
The battery on the PuppComm can fully charge in just a few hours.
Is the PuppComm battery replaceable?
The PuppComm's battery is a built-in rechargeable Li-Po battery that cannot be replaced by the end user. You should however never have any reason to replace since the battery should be able to last as long as the unit.
Can I really put the PuppComm anywhere?
Yes but the PuppComm works best when it's near your dog and so we recommend using the PuppComm when your dog is in an enclosed space such as a crate, a vehicle or a hotel room.
You were named one of the top 50 startups in the world. What does that mean?
PuppTech has worked with TiE Rockies, the Colorado chapter of TiE Global, the largest business angel network in the world. In May 2017 TiE Rockies nominated PuppTech to participate in this worldwide competition, with over 3600 entrants; PuppTech was selected as one of the 50 best. PuppTech’s selection as one of the 2017 Top 50 start-ups shows these business angels’ confidence in the PuppTech management team, technology and market.
How do I use the PuppComm?
Using the PuppComm is extremely simple. When you purchase your PuppComm, you enter basic data about your dog and your communications network configuration in the app and charge the battery in the unit. You can also adjust the default settings to suit your particular dog. You then place the PuppComm in the car; it will automatically transmit data to your smartphone. We recommend leaving the PuppComm turned on at all times, so that you don’t forget to turn it on when you leave the car. The battery indicator will let you know when the
battery is getting low.
What if I'm worried about my dog getting too cold?
The PuppComm provides temperature data and warnings for both hot and cold temperatures. It has default settings that provide alerts when the heat index is within ten degrees Fahrenheit of the “danger” limits. If the temperature drops below the default level of 50 degrees, it will begin sending warnings to the smartphone. As it gets colder, the frequency of the warnings will increase.
How do the window stickers help protect my car's windows?
The window stickers provide a unique code that allows passersby to know the temperature inside and outside the car. If a dog appears to be in danger, the passerby can contact the owner (anonymously) to remind him of the conditions and warn the owner that failure to act within a certain time period will result in calling the police or breaking a window.
Why does my dog need a PuppComm?
Currently thousands of dogs die every year in hot cars because owners are not aware or forget how quickly dogs can become endangered when left alone as cars heat up. Dogs can’t sweat or communicate their distress (other than by barking or panting), and the PuppComm allows owners to know not only the conditions in the car but how the dog is reacting to these conditions.
I'm worried I'll miss the alerts. How can I make sure I get them?
The app can alert you through text messages, emails, and/or push notifications and you can choose how you want to receive these notifications. Instead of just sending you one alert we'll keep sending them as conditions continue to change and you've acknowledged that you've received them.
Why would anyone ever leave their dog in the car?
Dog owners want to spend time with their dogs, and many places (for example restaurants, shopping centers) won’t let even responsible dog owners bring the dog with them. The real advantage of the PuppComm is precisely when you aren't using it – and you and your dog are together away from home. But since dogs can’t go everywhere you go, now you can take your dog – and always know (s)he is safe and comfortable when you have to stop on the way.
Are you working with veterinarians and other dog professionals?
Yes. We have already vets on our advisory board and are working with a number of other vets. We expect to partner with veterinary schools and research institutes to develop more detailed information on in what conditions heat becomes dangerous for dogs and how different breed react to changing conditions.
How does your "breed specific technology" figure out what's safe for my dog based on their breed, age, weight and other factors?
While we can't reveal all of the secrets about how this work, we can say that our algorithms are based on an animal care and condition developed by vets and used by pet welfare workers to evaluate how a dog is doing. As we continue working with vets and gathering more data about how dogs react to heat, our software will get much smarter at understanding how to keep you individual dog safe.
What if the PuppComm battery dies while I'm using the PuppComm?
While the PuppComm will stop working if the battery dies, the PuppComm will send alerts of low battery levels well in advance of the battery dying so you have plenty of time to go back to take care of your pet.
Can I use the PuppComm for other animals?
Yes, although in our experience, owner take other animals in the car much less frequently. There is, however, no reason that, for example, horse owners could not use the PuppComm in their towing vehicles to monitor the environment there.
Can I use the PuppComm for my kids?
NO!! Parents should NEVER leave kids alone in a car (unless they are old enough to understand the danger and free themselves if conditions change). While responsible dog owners encounter many places where they can’t bring their dogs, there is no place that a responsible parent cannot take their child when they leave the car.
Can I use the PuppComm in other places besides my car?
Absolutely. The PuppComm can measure heat, temperature and noise anywhere – RVs, tents, hotel rooms . . . anywhere your dog happens to be.
Isn't it illegal to leave a dog in a car?
It depends on the laws where you are. Generally, however, where dog protection laws are in place, they provide that it is illegal to leave the dog in a car when the conditions may place the dog in danger. With the PuppComm, dog owners will always know the ambient condition and can react if the conditions become dangerous – and thus, using a PuppComm means that the dog will not be in danger, so that leaving a dog in a car will not be in violation of the law. In our numerous discussions with law enforcement and rescue officers, they indicate that the PuppComm is an excellent solution for the “dog in hot cars” problem and will allow them to respond much less frequently to dog-related emergencies.
What are your plans for future products and services?
The PuppComm is only the first product of a long line of products and services PuppTech intends to offer. For individual pet owners, PuppTech will turn the PuppComm into a platform that will link other dog-related products (for example, video cameras, treat dispensers, dog health monitors) to make the PuppComm into a “Nest for dogs”. For working dog owners, PuppTech will develop software so that military, police and other users can manage multiple dogs in multiple vehicles simultaneously.
Why can't the PuppComm connect over WiFi so it doesn't need a cellular data plan?
The PuppComm connects over wifi when it's available but wifi is not available everywhere, and PuppTech believes that relying on wifi would frequently result in owners not being in contact with the PuppComm and unable to know what’s going on in the car. Cellphone coverage is virtually universal everywhere that dog owners are likely to stop and leave their dogs in the car (shopping centers, restaurants, gas stations). If dog owners are in remote locations (mountains, etc.) and the dog is with them, it’s usually because they want to take the dog with them and not leave the dog in the car.
What if something happens to me and I can't get back to my dog when I need to?
You can specify emergency and backup contacts who can be available to come take care of your dog in case you can't get to it. In the long-run we're planning on working with community groups and law-enforcement to develop a nationwide network of providers and caretakers who can come take care of your dog in an emergency if no one else is available.
I'm a distributor interested in ordering in bulk. What should I do?
If you want more PuppComms than what is available in our bulk perk then contact us. We’ll be pleased to set up shipping and appropriate compensation arrangements.
What if my phone loses the cellular connection with the PuppComm while I'm using it?
You will receive a warning indicating that the PuppComm is no longer communicating with the phone and be able to go back to the car and take care of the situation.
