Hi!
We're Road Not Taken, and we're a four-piece folk band based near Bristol. We've been playing and performing together since 2014, and released our first EP Back Into Storyland in 2016, but since then we've had a slight lineup change and our sound has really grown and developed. We'd really like to share our new songs and tunes with you with this new, as-yet-untitled, album.
Most of the material we play is traditional, but we also do some of our own songs and the odd arrangement of something a bit more contemporary, and all of these will be on the album. Our sound has been described as having a "hint of menace" (we think it was meant as a compliment!) but also as "songs that sounds as though they've been draped in glittering cobwebs... and that is a very find thing indeed." We prefer the term "melancholy" to "depressing"... but you get the idea!
We're recording this album with the very wonderful Mr Lukas Drinkwater at Polyphonic Recording in Stroud, and we're proud that it will be a completely independent release. We've already started the recording process, which you'll have seen from the release of the first single from the album, The Grey of the Water, which came out a couple of months ago. We're really thrilled with how it's all coming together and we're looking forward to getting it finished and released.
But that feels a long way off at the moment, as it's an expensive process... and that's why we need your help. We hope you'll join us!
What We Need & What You Get
We want to make this the best possible album it can be, so first and foremost, we're giving you the opportunity to pre-order the album and get your hands on it before the official release. There are also a myriad of other lovely perks, including your name in the album sleeve, a cover song of your choice (within reason!) given a Road Not Taken makeover, and even a concert in your very own living room, as well as lots of other little perks.
Please check out of the rewards and get involved!
The Impact
By backing this campaign, you'll become a hugely important part of the release of the new album. Your support will mean that we can record the album in the studio that we want to use, get it properly mixed and mastered, and get actual CDs made and sent out to you.
We're funding as much as we can ourselves, but we really need your support to make it as good as it can possibly be.
Risks & Challenges
As with any project, there is always the risk that it will run behind and be a little later than planned. We've set ourself strict deadlines in order to make sure it's ready for September, when we plan to go on tour, and we don't foresee a problem. But worst-case scenario is a delay, not a cancellation!
Other Ways You Can Help
We know that some people aren't in a position to contribute financially, but that doesn't mean they can't help. They can encourgage others to get the word out and make some noise about our campaign, share on social media and, if all else fails, we need tasty vegan recipes to sustain us in the studio.
Thank You So Much!
