Greetings and salutations world! My name is Jomahl
Gildersleve. I am the founder of Motherland Games and the creator of Sacred
Spear. I am 30 years old. I have been doing digital art and design for 5 years.
I am a student at Morehouse College studying Mathematics and Civil Engineering.
I have a passion for games and engineering. I love to create!
Sacred Spear is an action packed ode to the beat-em-up genre
that will leave you on the edge of your seat! It is the wedding day of the
famed warrior Abelo and his wife-to-be, the great dancer and healer Nomusa. When
suddenly their peaceful Kraal(tribal territory) is attacked! In the midst of
the chaos an ancient weapon has been stolen. That artifact is none other than
the Spear of Shaka Zulu, the long deceased founder of the Zulu empire. The spear is a weapon of immense power. But that power comes at a
cost. The spear will consume the life force of the person who wields it if they
are not strong in will and humble in spirit.

You as the player, can play through as either Abelo or Nomusa to
use their amazing combos and weaponry to defeat the enemy. Chase the thieves
and fight your way through exotic and challenging levels. An original
soundtrack will keep you hyped yet focused on the task at hand. Collect items,
other artifacts and powerups to rack up points on the leaderboard.

I’ve always wanted to play a videogame with African warriors
and mythology and I got tired of waiting for someone to make it. So I said
“I’ll do it myself!” and here we are, with you reading this page, me hoping and
praying you’ll help me finish this game haha.
I was partly inspired by this TED talk by author Chimamanda
Adichie http://youtu.be/D9Ihs241zeg
and it basically explains the importance of storytelling. So I decided to
make a fun game that adds a bit more territory to the realm of fantasy action.

Now let’s get down to the details.
The funds from this campaign will go towards:
· The development of the game (naturally)
· The creation of backer rewards (early access,
guide, art book, 3d printed statuettes, etc.)
· Computer upgrades (burned out my old laptop
trying to build this thing)
· Software (I will be using the pro version of
Unity3D and the Android extension http://unity3d.com)
· Asset purchases (I will be developing alone so I
may not have time to make every detail)
· Paying music producers and artists (there will
be an accompanying soundtrack)
· Cost of living until completion (my life will pretty much consist
of school and creating this game, I won’t be able to work full time)

You may ask “what makes you qualified for such an ambitious
endeavor?” Well I’ll tell you good sir or madam. I have 5 years of digital art and design
experience, 2 years of programming (C++), and I’ve been playing videogames
since Pole Position on Atari (kids ask your parents). So as you can see I’ve
been gaming for a while, and I want to add my own experiences to the world of
gaming. I’m just a fan who wants to make a game for other fans, that’s an idea
you can get behind right?

The main risk that I am taking is investing such a huge
portion of my life into this project. I am basically putting all my faith in my
idea and the hopes that people will have fun playing the game. I really feel
like people will enjoy this game and an underrepresented culture will
get an addition to the world of gaming as well.

The challenge I’ll face is that this is my first time
creating a game. All the characters have been created, but there’s still more
levels and animations to be made. Also, trying to stay on schedule with
development and keep my grades up will be daunting, but I know I’m up to the
task. As an engineering student I love to solve problems so I’m sure I’ll be
able to MacGuyver (again kids, ask your parents) my way out of any setbacks and
provide a quality product for you good folks out there. So in short, with your help and support “I got
this here.”

So please contribute what you can, i wanted to make sure my backers got perks that they would enjoy and make them feel like a part of this project. So share, Tweet, Instagram, telegram, carrier pigeon the link to this campaign with as many people as possible. Let's make it happen!
