MONSTER MAKEUP PRESENTS: SAINT DROGO

SAINT DROGO is an eerie, nightmarish slow burn inspired by 70s horror that depicts the deterioration of a gay relationship on the backdrop of a bleak, New England beach town in the winter. The horror genre needs more queer horror, told by queer storytellers!

Monster Makeup is a DIY production company that believes, as queer creators, we are the ones who tell OUR stories, where folks like us can be the heroes, the villains, or the final girls. Our films are unapologetically queer, and unique to both the horror genre as well as the spectrum of LGBTQ films

We learned a lot making our first feature, and fans of the film will see that we have made vast technical improvements for Saint Drogo. During our previous production, we certainly learned how to strecth a dollar, so any amount helps us in reaching our goal. We are already about half-way done with production but we need a little more funding to get to the finish line!

Inspiration

Saint Drogo was our "covid" film. We kept the main cast small and within our "bubble." The script was written during the pandemic, with Brandon creating an outline based on a setting Mike wanted to explore - Cape Cod during the off-season, when the bustling vacation beach towns become ghost towns. We filmed a majority of scenes in Provincetown this past winter and will be completing interiors, and final exteriors in the fall and upcoming winter.

Our Goals

After making our first movie, we wanted to continue to strive forward with DIY projects. With the founding of Monster Makeup, we hope to collaborate with other LGBTQ+ artists and to inspire folks to work with their communities to make art and media that often gets dismissed or ignored. We wanted to make films we weren't seeing on our screens, with representation we felt was missing. We plan to continue to do just that with Drogo.

Any pledges will be assisting in completing this project. We tackled the smaller stuff first and are proud with the results, but now we have intense, climatic moments we want to execute properly. We cannot do that without your help!

The Story

Saint Drogo follows a couple, Caleb and Adrian, at odds with their personal goals for their relationship. Caleb, a free-spirit and headstrong, marches to the beat of his own drum, while Adrian seeks commitment and partnership. When Caleb is plagued by nightmares of his ex, he suggest to Adrian that they go to Provincetown for a brief vacation. In town, Caleb begins to believe that his ex, Issac, who had been working in town for the summer, has gone missing. The trip quickly devolves into a search for Issac, which further divides the couple.

They are befriend by a year-rounder, Eric, who offers to assist in the search. But the coastal resort is desolate and every townie the group encounters provides no leads. As Caleb is persistently haunted by further disturbing images, he becomes steadfast in his search. But the closer he gets, the sooner he nears the sinister secret the town is hiding.

We took Death Drop Gorgeous as far as we could, and we promise to take Saint Drogo even further. Covid affected what was supposed to be our fesitval run, which moved DDG to a digital platform. We would like to see Drogo follow a more formal traditional festival run, with crowds and audiences together.
