Sanctuary:

Thousands of years before the Old Republic, a small group of refugees are being hunted down and killed because of their beliefs. After crash landing on a mysterious jungle planet, they must decide whether to keep running or make a final stand against their pursuers.

That's the surface story.  At it's core, Sanctuary is a story about faith. It is a story about what it means to lead. What it means to sacrifice. It is a story about how the choices we make really matter.

A long, long, LONG time ago in a galaxy far far away...

Great films start with great stories.  Great science fiction films start the same way, and throw in a few lasers, aliens or androids along the way.

Having always been fans of science fiction (including Star Wars), we thought making a short film set in the Star Wars universe would be challenging, fun, and leave a pretty indelible mark if done right.  But we didn't want to make some cheesy fan film to go with the thousands of other examples of youtube fodder already out there.

So we've spent months on writing and fine-tuning a script that we feel is pretty powerful and unique. This will be a film that focuses on characters and story without relying on special effects. Don't get us wrong, there's a pretty big battle in this film, which should be visually arresting when complete.

Release of the short film is planned for online streaming towards the end of 2011.

Why Make This Film?

This film is being made for a few reasons:
  1. To create a film that is engaging, fun, thoughtful, and even cool
  2. To inspire
  3. To catch the attention of Hollywood and show what can be accomplished with a micro-budget
  4. To challenge ourselves by accomplishing something that has never been done before
  5. To take the Star Wars universe into a new realm of filmmaking

Where Will The Funds Go?

This is a short film (~25 mins) but we need access to professional equipment and materials in order to make this film stand out. Because of the fan-film nature of this project, we are unable to pay those involved, or obtain formal financing, so everyone in the project is giving their time and talent free of charge.

Some of the funds will be used for:

  • Props (custom-built lightsabers)
  • Costumes (This is where a majority of the funds will go)
  • Production Equipment (Dolly Track, C-Stands, Monitors)
  • Hard Drive Storage
  • Location Fees
  • Hair/Makeup

Even if we meet our goal, the more funds we receive, the more we can put into making this look amazing!

So You Won't Make Any Money On This?

No. We do not own the rights to anything in the Star Wars universe, nor do we expect that to happen in a million years.

Then Why Even Make It A Star Wars Film?

Star Wars already has an established fan base of millions of people worldwide.  It also has an established canon that our story is careful to fit into. Sanctuary details the origins of a very important part of that universe.

And why not shoot for the stars? Who better to get your film to than George Lucas, one of the most powerful filmmakers of all time?

What Do I Get Out Of This?

Again, because of the whole copyright/trademark think, we can't make any money on this film and thus lower level investors will be granted credit on the film and exclusive insider access to behind the scenes materials. Higher level sponsors will get executive credit in the film as well as some great goodies (think one-of-a-kind lightsaber props, posters, and more).  Foot massages are still being discussed internally.

Most importantly, anyone funding this projects will get the opportunity to take part in creating and experiencing a film that is more than fluff.  We want this film to make an impact and be seen by millions of people!

Other Ways You Can Help

We are in need of as many people as possible to help make this film a reality.  Please spread the word by sharing our project on twitter, facebook, and any other means you can think of.  You can find easy share tools/buttons below the header graphic on this page.

Thank you so much!
