FAIRVIEW CINEMA 3 NEEDS YOUR HELP TO SURVIVE
The major studios have started distributing movies exclusively in digital format, and only one of the three theaters at Fairview Cinema 3 is now equipped with a DCI compliant digital projector and sound system. One out of three isn't enough to keep our only independently owned local movie house open and showing the movies you want to see.

Up until now, the fundraising efforts of the Friends of Fairview Cinema 3 (that's some of us in the picture above) have raised $13,000 for the Projector Fund, but we're still far from the goal of raising what's needed to buy even one more digital projector--they are that expensive. So now we're reaching out to anyone and everyone in the Hudson and Greenport community and beyond who goes to the movies at Fairview Cinema 3 and wants to see the theater survive and thrive in the digital age.
You can contribute any amount--from $10 to $1,000--and receive some nice perks--from the theater, from businesses near the theater, and from a collector of movie memorabilia--together with heartfelt thanks of the proprietor and the Friends of Fairview Cinema 3.
In December, Sky Dylan-Robbins made a video featuring Bruce Mitchinson, the owner of Fairview Cinema 3, and the plight of his theater and other independent movie houses, for the Culture Desk of the New Yorker. Entitled "A Crossroads for Independent Cinema," the video can be seen here.
