ABOUT SECOND STAR NYC
Second Star NYC is an independent film company
formed in 2014 to produce film projects highlighting artists from underrepresented
demographics, particularly women and people of color.
Working Title, our inaugural series, is a 6-episode web series chronicling the
hard work and determination that every struggling artist puts in to make their
storytelling dreams a reality.
Additionally, Second Star
hires a group of filmmakers each month to write, direct, and produce a 7-day film challenge. By creating a short film, from start to finish, within a week's time,
the challenge creates opportunities each month for us to collaborate
with a number of diverse artists.
Both of these
projects demonstrate our commitment to
diversity and highlighting fresh new voices in the filmmaking world.
Working Title
Mandy is a hopeful, young, would-be director with dreams of making it big in the business. She and five other members of a film crew are fired from the set ofPianos Interred, an independent movie directed by the pretentious and sadistic Kristoff Dixon.
Determined to prove herself - and out for revenge - Mandy enlists the help of her five fellow film rejects to make their own movie in time to enter it into the Working Title Film Festival.![]()
The competition is stiff and their time is limited, but they'll do whatever it takes to make
Brain Twins the best movie it can be - or at least finish it.

THE CHARACTERS
Mandy Zanetakos (Knilo Solei) - Mandy is an optimistic, determined woman with big dreams, big ambitions, and big problems. She wants more than anything to make her mark in the film world and will do anything to reach her goal - even if it means leading a ragtag group of misfits who don't quite know what they're doing.
She's also the secret daughter of Billy Zane.
Eric Godfrey (Dan de Jesus) - Eric is a dedicated actor with years of unpaid experience, thirsty for his first paid role. He's motivated by the lessons from his all-time favorite performer: himself.
Kyle Green (Matthew Willings) - Kyle loves to be in films, especially when he doesn't have any lines to memorize. He got his start in movies when he met Eric at a post-shoot happy hour, followed him to the set, and never left.
Julia Bernard (Theresa Basile) - Julia writes and Julia drinks. Those are her two basic modes, except when she's pointing out all the things that can possibly go wrong or defending her writing from people who just don't get it.
John "J.R." Ross, Jr. (Chris Gebauer) - J.R. is an intern who's just happy to be here, guys, and if there's anything you need him to do, he's on board! Making movies is awesome!
Tech Girl (Kim Wong) - Tech Girl is the technical genius who knows all the nuts and bolts about filmmaking. She knows just about everything, except understanding basic social cues. She also may or may not be a ninja.
Kristoff Dixon (Xavier Rodney) - is a douche. But dammit, he's good at movies.
