Happy Story - Synopsis
Marie and Peter have been drifting apart for some time. Marie is trying to hold onto the vestiges of their relationship, but Peter seems so distant these days. She can tell by the way he stares at the hawks circling overheard, examines a water pump as though it were a propeller, or pensively studies the ceiling fan after making love. Peter is dreaming of flying.
Our Story
In 2011 a team of award winning filmmakers came together to make 'Happy Story', a short film based off the work of booker-prize winning author, Peter Carey. With the help of many generous individuals (and lots hard work) the production of our film was an enormous success.
Seven months later, Happy Story is almost finished. We couldn't be more proud of the finished product and the time has come to start sharing it with the world.
Only You Can Stop Invisible Filmmaking
Making a film is just the first step to being a successful filmmaker. Now, we submit the film to festivals, create DVDs and find creative ways to share our work. Many student films never make it that far. Some never go to festival, others never see the light of day.
The biggest part of making a film is making sure that people see it. We don't make films to watch them by ourselves. Sending it around the world to all the best festivals is half the fun. There, scores of movie-going audiences will laugh, cry and enjoy our film on the big screen, the way it was meant to be seen. Festival submissions also allow us to showcase our work to people who might potentially want to hire us someday. You're not only supporting a great film, you're supporting emerging filmmakers too.
Without help getting our film to festival, we're unfortunately left with a wonderful product that no one will see. Don't let our film be invisible! We love it dearly and we want nothing more than to see other people love it too.
What We Need & What You Get
We plan to send the film to festivals across Canada, America, Europe and Australia. However, like any spectacular round-the-world trip, this doesn't come cheap! Donations would help cover the following costs:
Festival Submissions: In order to submit a film for consideration the filmmakers must pay a fee that can range from small to hefty, depending on the festival.
Post-Production: There are still some post-production costs that we need to cover to get the film festival ready! For instance, your contribution could help us pay to record our fantastic original score, which will be available for online download.
The Impact
Who's your favourite filmmaker? Wes Anderson? Christopher Nolan? Tim Burton? Stephen Spielberg? Even the best entertainers have to start somewhere. Help us get this movie made, and maybe we'll have the chance, the support, the funding and the trust to give you more fantastic stories in the future!
